I've had my MME since February and I might have rebooted the display twice...or once...

Not once ? (yet). I would think more than once every six months is the most should expect without going to the dealer, but based on the responses once a month might be better guide.. Maybe a common activity can be found amongst those who have to reset frequently. ie: Avoid activity X or you will have to reboot...

I've had my MME Premium for about 2 weeks. I've had to do the VOL down and button to reset about 5 times already. Is this normal for the rest of you? I'm wondering if I need to take to dealership, or if that's just part of the normal deal.
It is NOT part of the 'normal deal'.

you should def take to dealer so they can verify.... it may be solved with updates, or may require a replacement screen. Mine 'went black' several times when I first took delivery, and they replaced the console.... been 100% fine ever since.

Once maybe twice a month. Normally its due to the audio volume getting stuck on "voice" which is the same issue I had with my F150 with Synch 3.... The other times its because CarPlay is not working right.. Not sure if that is carplays issue or the car's.

Based on the infrequency of the screen issue I tend to think these are software vs hardware issues. I wouldn't be surprised if the issue is tied to Sync in combination with Android Auto/Apple Car Play. I use Android auto wirelessly all the time, I've never used the car without it. If the problem was occurring more regularly I would do some trial and error testing to isolate the issue.

I've had it happen to me a few times - I think it only happens when the car is parked facing the sun. The center screen must be heating up while parked. So, now when I park, I drape a small towel over the back of the screen. I haven't had the issue since.

yup, thats what was happening w mine.
Field Engr at dealership said 'that shouldn't happen'.... chips and connections are supposed to be ok to 150-160 deg f.

I was going to design a cloth or foam drape in the back to prevent direct exposure when facing South, but replacing the Screen and applying whatever updates seems to have worked, so I didnt' take the time to mess around with it further.

The design of having a big flat dark colored back with no venting facing the windshield where sun can pound on it just seems like a really unfriendly thing to do to computer chips.... It gets really hot when driving or parked facing South, but has not failed since screen was replaced.

I'm *probably* going to add a vented back cover.... but jest haven't gotten to it.

oh I have another story to tell here too: there is an excellent episode of the excellent podcast "99% Invisible" that talks about a very specific Mazda infotainment system bug. it's a great listen:

The Roman Mars Mazda Virus - 99% Invisible (99percentinvisible.org)

Most programmers will see the punchline coming but it's still fun.
99PI is a *great* podcast. That episode is actually from the "Reply All" podcast, but 99PI did run it as a guest episode.
