I am trying to determine what type of HV battery my 2023 Premium Extended Range Mach E has. I've found information online that indicates all extended range batteries are Nickel Cadium (NCM) and also found information that says the 8th digit of the VIN indicates an NCM if it is anything other than a 4 or 5 (mine is a U). However, my owner's manual clearly states that my battery is a lithium ion battery (LFP). Since there appear to be different recommended charging procedures depending on the battery type, I'd like to know for sure.

All batteries are Lithium ION.

All ER are NMC.

Sorry to sound like an idiot but I don't know what that means. Are NCM's a type of LFP?

Ive had some confusion too because both times I've run my vin through carfax or bumper it tells me its an LFP but my vin code doesn't have a four or five in the either place.

You can always refer to your monroney sticker.
