Just got back from 2 weeks away. 1 week in Oregon for a wedding, then a week in Florida for a graduation. Would have driven, but timing made it impossible.

Rented cars in both places, EVs were twice the price. 2.5 years since I drove a gas vehicle. Drove twisted roads in Oregon to/from Crater Lake and Bend, missed both vehicles then but especially the Mach-E. Got to be in the former home of Steve Miller which was neat.

Tampa was hot and humid, glad my son and his family are moving next week to 20 miles from us. Drove his Grand Highlander from the airport home, picking him up tomorrow with an EV.

Drove my Lightning a few miles after getting home, brought a smile to my face.

I’m itching to replace my wife’s Honda Pilot with an EV. It’s terrible to drive after driving my Mach E every day. Looking at Rivian (R2 since we rarely use the third row any more) for the range to use for road trips.

I have a trip to Northern California planned for August. I’m not looking forward to the ice car rental probability. Gas prices are on par with Hawaii there. Though slightly more expensive. That’s another negative.

We have a reservation for an R2. Once they get the Lidar on it, and the bugs worked out, early to mid 2027 looks interesting to us.

We paid $4.85 to $4.99 in Oregon, $3.99 in Tampa.

Tampa will be hot and humid until Halloween.šŸ˜“
Yeah, one of the many reasons they are moving.

My wife and I are going to San Diego later this summer. I told her I wanted to rent an EV. She was a little uncertain about that, but I told her we wouldn't have any issues with charging it. In fact I doubt we will even need to charge it at all since I don't plan to drive it more than 60 miles or so.

I filled up my F-150 Powerboost at Costco the other day. 92 octane gasoline for 5.49/gal. Filled up my Sprinter RV with Diesel B5 for 6.19/gal. Charged my Mach E too. 24kWh generated by PV solar.

Driving an ICE car is not a problem for me - I'll drive anything that's road legal - but given a choice, I prefer electric propulsion.

Agree.

I think if I could know *which* EV the rental center would give me, that would make a big difference. You definitely can narrow it down. I also considered using Turo since you could just pick which Mach-E you wanted to rent. Figured I could just bring my NACS to CCS adapter in my luggage. Definitely would be more fun to drive a cool EV on a trip than a gasoline rental.

My second car, as long as I live in Alaska, will be ICE. We drive our EV most of the time but at -30 it is marginal for heat and the way they plow roads up here when we get a few inches of snow it can be dicey to not bottom-out at intersections for a few days afterwards.

I recently put 1200 miles on a rental Hybrid Camry in Arizona and southern Utah. A bit of a downgrade in driving experience from my MME, but it was great to get almost 45 mpg on the trip. The Camry was exactly what I reserved and also the cheapest midsize car available. I do wonder if the EVs offered as rentals are NACS-ready?

I’d NEVER go back.

Just done a round trip to London & back, 237 miles, AC working hard in temps of 34degC/93degF on one charge, 40-odd miles to spare and cost me Ā£7.52šŸ˜‚

It cost me Ā£7.25 at Motorway services for just a coffee, bag of crisps and a small chocolate baršŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Makes no sense šŸ˜‚

Have to fill the wife’s car up with petrol 4 times a year (she don’t get out much!) and I hate filling up, the entire experience!

It’s like a trip back to the dark agesšŸ˜‚

There are plenty of ICE vehicles I’d love to have… as toys. But for driving to work everyday, taking family trips, and driving around town, ICE makes zero sense for me.
