There's no way that could possibly be true. So Ford is going to install metal wheels with a non removable piece of plastic? They'd make the whole thing metal if that's the case.

Aside from that, the care is looking pretty sexual right now, man that thing is clean. I can't believe how much I like the silver too.
Yeah metal and plastic don't weld together. My guess would be it's integrated into the center cap...so they'd need to pop out the center cap with the Aero cover coming with it.

The aero covers might be removable in the sense that breaking them is the only way to remove them. Depends on the original design intent.

I think Scooby24 put it best with 'metal and plastic don't weld together'. So unless they've used guerilla glue to keep those things on, they should be able to come off easily. Otherwise there are going to be a boat load of snapped aero covers lol.

Having been on the design side of a plastic part that was never supposed to be separated from an aluminum part, I reassert “it depends on the design intent.”

I'm at the dealership doing my paperwork and asked the service department to get the aero covers off. They said that after pulling the wheels off, the covers are solidly fixed onto the wheel somehow. They're plastic, and you can pull the top out slightly, but they don't see a way to get the covers off without breaking them.
Not too surprising. Luckily, most people don't care about preserving them I'd think, so if they get destroyed when they are removed, no big loss. I can understand why a dealership would be hesitant to do that though, especially on a brand new vehicle.

Right. It really just means the wheel covers aren't meant to be removed and reattached later. Obviously it's all but impossible to create a plastic wheel cover that could not be physically separated from a metal wheel.

Of course, this is preliminary still, and maybe in the future someone will find a way to remove the cover without destroying it, or at least remove it in a way that does minimal / inconsequential damage such that it could be successfully reinstalled later if desired.

I think to me the main question is why? The car weighs 4800lbs, would 4 lbs of extra aluminum make a difference? On the other hand, it would look way better to have a fully aluminum wheel (assuming that's the material they used) instead of a 90% aluminum wheel and 10% cheap plastic on a $65k car.

Worth considering we are taking the word from dealership techs...my guess is they aren't the brightest when it comes to this design (probably never seen an EV with an aero cover) and probably didn't realize the covers are integrated with the center cap..so if they tried to remove it without removing the center cap too they probably were worried they'd break something on a brand new car which they don't want to do. All the other aero cover on the lower models are integrated with the center cap. No reason to believe this is any different. We just need replacement center caps.

This is more than likely the case. I’m only guessing since I don’t have a set of wheels to look at.

The seats looks a lot better than the seats of the red gt in the other thread.
Are there different seats when you choose other packets?

Yes... these are the GT seats. The red one is a GTPE.

Permanently attaching visible black plastic crap to the wheels of a sports car would be a remarkably stupid 'design intent'. I'm gonna assume Ford is smarter than that.

Honestly, those wheels don't look half bad in that pic. I'd rock them before I broke something and then didn't like what was underneath. JMHO, YMMV

Congrats

I believe that's the way it works on Teslas too, removing their aero covers is permanent. I was hoping Ford offered a different design using the lug nuts to keep it in place and make them optional.

Not sure...lol

I've been at the dealership for 6 hours now. PRO TIP: If you're going to go with the Options Plan, make sure your dealer is knowledgeable about it!! Or plan on enjoying the day with them...lol

Shout out to @hybrid2bev for helping me through the process!!
