Comma.ai-3X-front-shop-1680x1260.jpg

As of 0.9.2, Comma.ai began to support Ford vehicles. Their latest release, 0.9.4, is quite impressive.

Went ahead and put in an order for the Comma C3X and the needed Ford Q4 Harness .

Since our IPMA is located in the trunk area, a long 3.1 USB-C extension is required. I picked out this one, as it seems to meet all the specs.

I will be documenting and taking photographs to the best of my ability so that people can hopefully learn and not repeat any mistakes that I make.
any update, did you get your 3x? Any concerns with running a super long USB and locating the IPMA?

My 3x has not shown up yet. It had a 1-8 week back order. which is not very useful of a timeframe.

Sorry all, I ended up canceling my order prior to delivery due to personal matters. I wish you success on the project.

I am waiting for one, but it will be going in my F150. Everything on the F150 should be the same except the IPMA location. I’ll be sure to report back here regularly on results.

I will have to do some research on the long USB cable issue facing the Mach E

What impact does this have on auto insurance? Do insurance carriers require some kind of rider if this system is installed?

Currently there are no insurance companies that I could find which require special allowances for level 2 ADAS, OEM or aftermarket. You are in the seat and required to keep eyes on the road at all times, making you responsible. I imagine we will see special requirements when the leap to unattended driving gets close.

It’s interesting that the safety scolds haven’t found their way to this thread yet. I guess they’re still fixated on people wanting to disable their backup beepers.

I think the data / commands on CANbus are going to be encrypted in newer models.
But, if I had a luxury or future collectible model from 2017-2023 that I was keeping for the long term, this product would be an incredible thing to have added to that car.

I wish I could see a path where 3rd party devices like this could be "authorized" by an owner to talk over CANbus, but I just can't see how that happens with manufacturers wanting to charge a kings ransom for subscription services (i.e. BC 1.3 pricing).

Toyota is already encrypting their data, so the newest models are not supported. There are certainly valid reasons to encrypt the communications on a connected car, but I agree it would be nice to be able to authorize a device. I also agree it won't happen due to the ability to charge a subscription for whatever it is you are trying to add yourself.

So I just received my 3x that I ordered in hopes of following this thread and see plans have changed...lol. My BC is ending this year and was hoping for any improvement. Should I just hop on the comma.ai discord in hopes someone can assist?

Wouldn't hurt to keep this thread open for others in the future. I just got mine today as well, already got the F150 up and running and took my first drive. You can message me on discord (same username) and I can answer most questions you would have.

So, this isn’t the same as Tesla’s FSD? It’s just a different BlueCruise?
