My daughter claims that whenever she rides in our MME (MY 22 GT) she gets nauseated. I've had it now for over a year, so this is not "new car smell".

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced similar? Is the material that odoriferous?

Is she riding in the back seat ?
If so, it's common for car sickness.

I know that my wife hates sitting in the back seat.

Also is the A/C odor coming from a mildew / mold smell ?

Doesn't seem to matter - she's often in the front seat but she complains either way.

We've been running the AC but honestly I can't detect any malodorous effects. Certainly doesn't smell moldy or anything. She describes it as a plastic smell, so I'm wondering if it's the seat material itself.

Ignoring the possibility of any teen daughter having to sit in any car with her father might cause similar compaints of illness... (I never experienced this ;-))

THE weird smell I've noticed is the ultra-industrial windshield washer fluid. It is now starting to fade after several refills with normal fluid.

Passengers experiencing motion sickness in MMEs exclusively seem to be reported frequently here. I'd try driving without 1PD and not in Unbridled Mode- both seem to cause more jerky motion noticed more by people not driving.

Good luck, I hope the problem is one of the latter options here.

There are some people who are hyper-sensitive to odors that most people do not detect. I have a friend who's sister can detect new plastic products introduced into her environment without her ever seeing them. Perhaps your daughter unfortunately has this issue. Might be worth asking her if other smells elsewhere bother her. Have you tried airing out the car for an extended period? We use these and they help absorb bad smells.

Of course, as others have suggested, there is also the possibility of motion sickness either as well or as the sole cause. Bounce, 1PD driving, rapid acceleration, can all induce nausea.

Best of luck!

It's likely not odors, but the lack of road noise combined with the jerky movements.

If I start the AC immediately after charging at home sometimes I notice a weird metallic kind of odor which goes away after a moment or two. As others have suggested there have been reports of passenger motion sickness in EVs not just the MME

Oh super interesting - thanks. Will try this.

And yes your point #1 has come to mind ?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I wonder if it's related to the reports that women are more susceptible to nausea when wearing VR goggles.

Definitely try switching drive modes when others are in the car (anything but unbridle). It could just be motion sickness from the harshness of the ride + constant stopping and going.

Yes.
Try whisper mode to see if the ride might be what's causing it ?

I am hypersensitive to certain chemical odors, but am not super sensitive to the Mustang's odors. In other vehicles, I've had to use activated charcoal bags throughout the vehicle to reduce the odors. They're reusable and need to be set out in direct sun for a few hours every month or so.

Some of my passengers have complained of my driving making them nauseated. I think the training we receive to correlate road and vehicle noise with speed means riding in an EV feels more discontinuous than it really is (that's my story and I'm sticking to it--it couldn't possibly be my driving). Nobody has responded positively to me turning on the artificial sound as a way of mitigating the experience, but they have responded positively to Whisper and 2PD driving rather than Engage and 1PD.

I think the first step would be to have her stop wearing VR goggles in the car.

Does she get sick when she is the driver? Motion-induced sickness is generally more pronounced for passengers than for drivers. ?‍♂?

Word of note: The MMEs that do not have Magneride are more prone to induce motion sickness in people than the cars with Magneride. The reason is that the Magneride cars have active damping and the non-Magneride cars are horribly under-damped in the rebound direction, causing a lurching bounce on some roads. ??
