Is the Frunk more secure?

I live in a city "known" for smash and grab. Am I correct to assume that if I leave anything important in my car in the public the Frunk is RELATIVELY more secure than the backseat or the trunk? Obviously if someone somehow stole my car they will have plenty of time to explore and find the button on the screen to open the Frunk. But for someone that breaks a window the Frunk is far more inclaccessible. Am I foolish?

I’m no expert, but anywhere else in your car they can break in by breaking glass, but for the Frunk they would have to pry open a couple of metal latches. But in reality, I would say the only thing that makes it a little bit safer is out of sight out of mind.

I would say the frunk is more secure because:
1. It is a locked, totally closed space, and
2. Most people doing “smash and grabs” are trying to do so quickly and not thinking of unusual spaces like a frunk.

If they know about how to access the frunk of a Mach-E they can smash the window, open the door, then use the manual frunk release lever.

But probably less likely to happen than smashing and grabbing something from the trunk or interior.

I think most owners don't know how to open the frunk, so you're probably good.

I agree with folks that the frunk is likely to be safer. That said, never open the frunk in an area where you’ll be parking. You don’t want to advertise that, a) it’s there and b) there’s stuff in it.

I always try to get whatever I need out of the frunk (or trunk) before I go to where I’ll be parked for an extended period. That way it’s less likely someone casing the area will know to target my car.

Yes, it’s more secure from a few standpoints, but nothing is 100%.

Smash and grab thieves know to look in the trunk/frunk. Lots of videos show a thief breaking a car window then opening the trunk. This is very common with smash and grabbers near airports going after rental cars... the now permanently closed Oakland, CA In-N-Out Burger location being a very good example...

If smash and grab thieves think there is something valuable in a frunk they will go after it just as fast as they do with trunks...

Most smash and grab type don't even know there is a frunk.
They probably think there is an engine under the hood like most cars.

Frunk is a safer bet....by far.

Smash window.
Open door.
Pull manual release lever twice... There is no screen button accessible without a key.

I don't use the Frunk very often, so for some reason I was thinking that it didn't have a mechanical release. If it had at electronic release that didn't work when the car was locked, then it would have been more secure. But it has the traditional mechanical release. This is like every other car in the world for the hood, so all the criminal needs to know is that EVs have Frunks. Given this, it isn't any more secure to smash and grab, other than "out of side, out of mind".

Never leave anything in a car that is visible from a window.

BTW to test this (since I didn't want to smash a window) I left a door open and locked the car and put the FOB far away. When I pulled the Frunk release and the alarm went off.

Your alarm went off because you entered the vehicle, activating the motion sensors.
