Elon calls those “fricken laser beams” that he has mounted on the heads of his Teslas ?

Ok this is weird, I hardwired the escort passport max radar detector using the excellent guide in the DIY section and now it’s getting laser alerts randomly (or so I think is random) swapped out the detector for the passport 9500ix from my wife’s car and got the same thing but not at the same places... which leads me to believe that there is a laser emitter somewhere in the car?!? Please tell me I’m not crazy...

I have the same radar detector and for now just plugged into the console. Have the same issue. Altenates between LASER and AUTO, randomly. In the garage and on the road. Random. thought maybe the Toll Tag device on the front bumper...removed it, no change. Even turned LASER off in the selection section, still does it!

Just try moving the detector so it could point through the black-dotted area up by the mirror. Made no difference. Still randomly goes to LASER alternating off/on with the AUTO setting. Even if it worked, no way it can be mounted to point ahead, through the black-dotted area. Area is too small, and right at the top.

Solved the problem. Defeated the "laser" setting (turned Laser OFF) and operates ok. Laser not really that valuable since if it alerts you...probably should get ready to pull over if above the speed limit by some amount. Apparently the camera that tracks your eye movement was the interference. Also had the Toll Tag people use their scanner and found could stick it on in the black dot area on the windshield, but not any of the clear area.

wow... thanks for continuing to dig at this, for now, i've learned to tolerate the laser alerts, as i was still trying to figure out getting GPS working reliably (ironically, placing it here has less laser alerts, and if you are right that the eye tracker is at fault, the distance from the eye tracker explains it)... i managed to fix gps with the below placement, but now i'm also doubting if the radar is actually working - as i drove by several police cars recently, and the radar didn't go off! :p if the laser gets annoying enough, i will switch it off as you recommended..

FYI, my radar (KA for example) is definitely working. Mine is placed on the left side, just showing under the mirror. No issues since I defeated the Laser setting.

I thought I was losing it with the loss of the GPS. I'm glad it's not just me. Like you, I turned off the laser setting on the detector because of all the false alerts.

Lasers...pffft! I'm waiting for the photon torpedo OTA that we discussed in another thread.

I have GPS. My detector is now as before the Mach-E...since I turned off Laser.

Wait, did you have to move the radar to the same spot I had to (the blacked out area) or did turning off laser also fixed go’s reception wherever it is placed??

No, didn’t move it. Seemed the black-dot area is too small and couldn’t mount it to have it view through the dotted area. Held it there and made no difference. Solution was turning off the Laser. For the Toll Tag, needs to be on the black-dot area. It’s a sticker-type tag.

Thanks @TxTom i'll try turning off the laser to see if GPS works fine... the current place i'm mounting it is a little odd (right in front of the passenger).. btw, are you experiencing any issues with Ka pickup? reason: i drove by several police vehicles and the radar didn't go off :(

nonetheless, thanks for the tip!

No problem receiving KA with my setup, and no problem with GPS (even when I had the Laser problem, always received GPS). You should be able to relocate to anywhere your connection allows. Not certain about your GPS issue.
