2024 GTPE I purchased used last month with about 15k miles on it. Using the provided mobile charger (level 1) to charge.

Is there a way to set it to charge a max of 80%? I see the option but it won't let me use my home where i'm using the mobile charger as a target location that I can set a max.

Do I need a real charging station like ford or lectron's? I Plan to stay at level 1 for now unless my needs change, but want to set limit to 80% when I'm at home left plugged in (which is usually a few days at a time)

I am sorry that I can’t answer this without sarcasm og annoyance, but Ford in all their wisdom has decided that unless you have a ‘25 model you cannot set a global charge limit. What you have to do is to charge at a location, then do a second charge to be able to save the location. Then you can change the charge limit for that location (regardless if type 1 or 2).

To actually store a new charging location you have to do the infamous first charge, then head to charging (in Ford app), something something charging locations -> add -> find the new location. When added you can then head to charging -> something something charging location, and from there set limit.

Edit: I re read your post, are you saying that the app refuses to adhere to your charge limit set on location? If so I can’t be of much help sorry. Maybe worth trying to log in / out of app, alternatively remove it and download again, to see if that makes a change.

I use the Ford mobile charger on level 2 and target charge locations should also work on level 1. Is the car connecting to the Ford server? To check, does the the Ford app home screen indicate "Parked" and does vehicle location work? If not it may not have a server connection and you won't see the charge limit selection slider on the charge screen when plugged in. I had this happen for a few hours last week. The server connection requires the car's cell or WiFi connection, not the Bluetooth connection the phone uses for PAAK and controls.

As others have pointed out, you do have to complete at least one charge at a location before its available as a location that you can set a limit on. Assuming that you have done this, I also ran into a bug where I couldnt save my home location, but a quick call to the Ford support line resolved it for me (I had to do some kind of app reset sequence, but I no longer recall the details. The Ford support reps were very helpful though, and I resolved it in under 10 minutes or so. Good luck!

I was able to do it last vacation at a rental house using the ford app. Had to set it up as a location and then the target charge. Experiment a little. Enjoy the car.
