I noticed i am losing 2 to 3 miles of range while the car sitsovernight. I am not sure if this is normal or if it is related to the malfunctioning auto headlight switch. Are you experiencing a lis of milage. How much? Do you have the known headlight problem?

Keep the car plugged in and it will use the power to maintain the battery and not the battery itself. But that is normal especially in the winter months.

If you check the range throughout the day, as temps warm up, you'll see it go up. Then check again first thing in the morning, and it will be back down.

You haven't lost anything.

Ignore the miles, look at the percentage. Are you losing a percent overnight also? If not, then as noted above you haven't lost anything. It's just the smart range meter adjusting for different weather.

If you "lost" 3 miles overnight, I would expect a 1% change in your percent if it was really lost since the car probably shows an average mile/kWh of around 3 miles. Assuming you have an ER battery, which has under 100 kWh of usable energy, 1% would equate to about 2-3 miles.

If percentage isn't dropping, it's just the smart range meter. If it is dropping, then yeah you might have some parasitic loss somehow. But for your own sanity, stop caring about the guess-o-meter and just pay attention to percentage.

This year we've been getting 300 miles per 100% charge. I had 90% charged the car yesterday - resulting in 271 mile range showing. When i got in the car today, it was 90% but 230 mile range. ("Lost" 40 miles without temperature change at 85 degrees.) Do you think there was a recent software change that produced the 40 mile drop? After driving 135 miles, the range showing is 104 miles and 40%. Ideally it should be 136 miles and 45%. What do you think is happening?

Are you driving faster on a trip?

I did not drive the car between the 270 and the 230 mile range. It was parked in the garage at 90°F for 24 hours.

Ignore the GOM and pay attention to your efficiency (miles per kWh). If the efficiency is the same as you’ve been seeing, so is your range.

Now that I think about it. I did drive the car on the highway at 70 -75MPH prior to charging it to 90%. Is it possible that the software now re-calculates to a new projected mileage?

Yes, possible.
The latest GOM algorithm also recalculates when you enter a destination in the nav. And (at least for me) it always drops, never increases.

That auto head light on bug kills your LVB, not your HVB.

This very likely, I entered the destination in NAV (to Tampa FL, the Speed limit is 70 MPH in the Hwy.) and started driving. I looked at the range and that is when I noticed the drop of 40 miles. Will test the theory again. Thanks for your help. Did you get the GOM algorithm info from FORD or you figured out yourself -pretty smart.

It was in the release notes of the OTA (which is rare) and discussed here on the forum.
