Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve noticed an occasional loud “snap” or “crack” sound from my windshield. It sounds sort of like a rock hitting the windshield, but I’ve never been driving behind a truck or other vehicle, not have I been driving on roads with stones or loose pavement. There’s no sign of rock chips or damage on the windshield or anywhere on the car.
Anyone have any idea what may be going on here.

I heard something similar once when I went over a bump in the road on one side of the car. Feared it was glass, but never noticed any damage, and I presumed it was the adhesive that binds the glass to the frame cracking (brittle due to it being cold out) due to slight frame warping.

I hear this sort of sound too, though it seems like it's coming from the pano glass roof. I've never seen any cracks in it, so I'm thinking it's just temperature related swelling and shrinking of the metal frame and adjacent materials.

I’ve never been driving behind a truck or other vehicle
How is that possible after almost three years? Nearly every day I find myself driving behind or alongside rock hauler trucks (they're quite common here), pickup trucks, jeeps with off-road wheels on the rock-laden freeways, etc.

Hey, it happened to me too few days ago, twice in the night. Sounded like a rock hitting the glass.

I was sure to see crack in the windshield, but nothing.
But it was a loud snap/bang. Scared the hell out of me and my friends.

Let's keep this thread updated for any new information.
Thanks for posting

I was cleaning my windshield with windex wipes and heard the same. I thought dang I was not pressing down hard!

I should clarify - I’ve not been driving behind other vehicles or trucks when I’ve heard this noise (well, maybe another car, or small truck, but not like a construction truck or tractor-trailer or anything).

Mine has done this occasionally since new. I just assumed it’s temperature related.

Mine has done this occasionally since new as well. Sounds just like a small rock hitting the windshield. Feel better knowing it’s not just mine but really sorry it’s not just mine.

Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one experiencing this, although I’ll note that it just started happening in the past couple of weeks after 3 years of ownership.

This is something I've noticed since we bought the car new as well. Glad I'm not the only one who has noticed it. Seems to most often happen when you hit a patch of sun early in the morning (when it is otherwise pretty shady) or have just exited a garage into much warmer outside air, so I've also always thought it was temperature related.

I don't have a glass roof, so it's definitely windshield related on my car.

I've had my MME Select (no glass roof) for 3 years and I've heard that sound quite a few times. Initially they were quite disturbing but I'm used to it now. Seems like every couple of months it happens.

This is a weird thread lol. I don’t recall glass making popping sounds being a good thing. I swear I’ve heard this as well.
