Above average? It loses 34%. The average is 28% and the only reason it's third in the table is because they used the extended range version to start with.

That combined with:
The Audi was one of the first EVs built with a heat pump thermal management in mind and, overall, electric cars with those fared very well as they help offset the biggest winter weather battery consumer of cabin and seat heating.

Since when did 12v seat heating make one iota of difference whether you've got a heat pump or not?

Practically speaking, the Mach-E is an in-town car during harsh Midwest winters. It doesn't matter to me, but it certainly does to many people.

I think it does fine. It’s in the mid 40s here and my car said 257 at 100%.
That’s 13 miles less than advertised.

It looks pretty encouraging to me considering it's number four and started from a lower moderate temperature range than the top two?

Don't get me wrong, I've got a standard range so want every damn mile I can get from the batteries over winter but that article is flawed, if a 1000 mile vehicle came out but lost 50% over winter it'd still win because at 500 miles it beats everything else, that's not great... should be least range loss.

I seem to loose 30% on average

Interestingly the Q4 eTron no longer has a heat pump - Audi said it was because of semiconductor shortages but others (Munro) speculated it was because theirs didn’t do the job. After they switched to resistive heaters they kinda said “well, heat pumps aren’t great when it gets really cold anyway…” which is true, but sounds like a whole lot of spin to me.

I don’t think heat pumps are perfect, but they certainly consume less power than the 5 kW resistive heater we have in the Mach-E

As for range, I easily see 30% less range when actual winter (-5c to -20c) rolls around.

Mache is worse than the average by these metrics, but if they used EPA range instead of Ideal Temp Range Tesla would get pummeled and be the worst by far.

In Toronto , mostly inter city highway weekly long range 2021 MME
In winter double whammy
I budget for 40% range loss and have to stop to charge and it is of course slow due to cold 35-45kW typ. And charging network has more issues so stop to charge earlier just in case I have to go to the next location….

3 hour no stop summer trip is 4hr one stop winter trip (drive slower and charge longer…) a least always plenty of work todo on laptop…

When I take my wife’s M3 about the same range loss, except charge speed way faster - and 100% reliable…
Looking forward to the Tesla network availability for us…
