I'm guessing he panicked and pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. Happened to a friend of mine years ago: she started going down a pretty steep piece of road, the car accelerated and in a panic she hit the wrong pedal. Luckily she walked away without injuries.
Happened to a neighbor being dropped off. The car literally ended up in a tree. Luckily no one was hurt.

It it's interesting that the MME stopped completely after hitting the other car, but didn't stop as it was scraping the wall. That seems to point toward the foot on the wrong pedal issue, but that was a long time to be scraping on the wall to not realize the error. Hopefully we get some sort of public explanation after Ford digs though the data to try to determine what happened...

My theory: tie rod broke, stepped on the accelerator thinking it was the brakes. Can’t explain why both hands weren’t on the steering wheel though.

I’m still just trying to wrap my head around how you could mistake the break for the gas, especially when there’s no clutch battle I can understand hitting the clutch and not the brake ! Now I will say with my gas vehicle a lot of times I will hit the brake in my right side of my foot. The little toe will step on the gas and sometimes I’ll catch myself lunging forward.

I am still boggling at the driver (or maybe passenger in back seat on zoom?) recording this whole thing, and and the driver keeping their car this close. I wouldn't have wanted to be pacing that craziness.

It happens a lot more than you’d guess.

I guess if you can mistake “break” for “brake”, you could also mistake “gas” for “brake.” 🤣

This is also part of my supposition that it was all staged for click bait.

If I had to guess, that is a newly purchased car and the window sticker is from DGDG (Dell Grand Dealer Group) which holds the temporary registration of the car that is required here in CA until you get your registration from the DMV.
So if you're right , which you probably are , then the car is/WAS around 90 days old or less ?
Plate on back looks black n white like your temps .
Damn and ouch .
Imagine if he was driving home FROM the dealership which btw , Capital Ford , is right off the 101 and they do have a few green Machs for sale ...interesting
