Has anyone ever seen a Mach E commercial? I owned a Chevrolet Volt and a Honda Clarity and never saw a commercial for either of them. Marketing is job one for most companies.
Yes, lots of them. Last year Ford ran a lot of Mach E commercials during football.

Complete PR spin on behalf of Ford.

Let's ignore the fact that the Mach E is the 3rd worst selling USED vehicle.
Let's also ignore the fact that it takes 50 days on average to sell a NEW Mach E.

But hey, at least they sell Mach E's faster than a Nissan Leaf!

Interesting. Is there some context that makes those stats sound less bad?
I revised my post a little because I put the stats for an ICE mustang on the new side. It's still not great. Excluding Tesla (that's a huge exclusion) there's 7 other EVs that sell better.

The key in the article you linked is "SUV" and the gap between first and second as someone else noted. If you look at Ford's total EV sales vs other players they aren't anywhere near second, they don't even make the top 10 globally (cited) and they do sell globally. Even newer startups like Rivian have them chasing their tail. If you want to look at US only, they are still behind Tesla, Hyundai-Kia, GM, and VW in total sales YTD. YoY MachE sales are down 21% compared to 2022.

They spun the article to limit sales to an SUV, which is likely the second least made EV behind a truck. If you classify the MachE as a car, they would be toast. It's like saying that some no-name appliance company makes the 2nd most hand-spun ice-cream machines. To say they make the 2nd most appliances would be a feat that only the media can do.

Just go to Carvana or some other site and see what they will offer. My 2021 GTPE, 2 years old was $70k new. Carvana offered me $30k. 40k loss in 2 years is painful. Normal depreciation is 40% in 5 years. I'm at 60% in 2 years. They just aren't selling...

wow, the MME ad in the thread above is the first one I think I have seen. Lots of F150 ads here... I bet the ads are market specific.

it's leasing for $2k and $399 here in San Diego, my local dealer was offering 0% apr for 60 months+ 3000 cash allowance if you finance with ford + 3000 rebate, it is cheap.

And then you realize that Tesla has produced 889,015 EVs just in the first 6 months of this year and you realize just how much of a gap there is between the first and second spot.
ahhh... perspective...

Tesla is crushing everyone in the EV space in terms sales. And because of their ability and willingness to reduce price, they will continue to do so for the next couple of years. (yeah used EV prices are going to go down when new prices go down. get ready.)

In aggregate EVs are killing it. Now ~8% market share in the US. It was under 3% when I got my MME only 2 years ago. But with so many new models introduced, individual models are not growing very fast if at all. But the sky isn't falling. Most of the EVs I'd consider competition for the MME seem to be around 50 days supply. Ioniq 5, ID4, EV6. Ioniq 6 is >10 days better than the MME, but supply moves these numbers as much as demand.

Interesting numbers above. Is that people ordering new and having to wait 4 month+ to get because of one Ford reason or another. Or abandoned builds delivered to dealers and dealers putting ADM on them, so they sit. Or it is Dealers over ordering and shafting themselves with shit optioned cars. Or is it Ford force feeding them EV"s they don't want.

Isn’t it funny how rankings work the same even if the difference between them is a whole digit (or two) at the end? :)

The days inventory is the number of cars on hand divided by the number sold each day... e.g. how many days it would take to use up current inventory. It is an industry standard measure expressing mostly how well production matches demand.

Just saw a commercial in a movie theater last Thursday right before Oppenheimer.

SUV SUV SUV SUV! Go back and change your heading, it says EV SUV not EV, REPEAT NOT EV! CLICK BAIT. Give me a break with your misleading article!
Sarcastic?

"The vehicles now classified as SUVs for this purpose include but may not be limited to the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, the 2022 and 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E, certain variants of the 2022 and 2023 Tesla Model Y, certain variants of the 2022 and 2023 Volkswagen ID."

https://electrek.co/2023/09/05/ford-mustang-mach-e-becomes-2nd-best-selling-ev-suv-august/

Sales of Ford’s Mustang Mach-E bounced back in August, rising 61% from last year. The Mach-E became the second-best-selling electric SUV in the US, behind Tesla’s Model Y.

Although Mach-E sales fell over 20% in the first half of the year as Ford retooled its plant in Mexico, where the electric SUV is built, they are on the rise again.

Production has picked up all year with 0 Mach-E’s being built in January, 300 in February, 7,381 in March, 11,858 in April, 13,639 in May, and another 13,000 in June.

Mach-E sales climbed 61.3% YOY in August to 5,033 units. To put this into persepective, Ford sold a total of 8,633 Mach-E’s between April and June.

With sales climbing, Ford’s Mustang Mach-E became the second best-selling electric SUV in the US behind Tesla’s Model Y.
So, Ford produced 38,497 Mach-E’s between Apr and June and sold just 8,633 in that period. That’s an awful lot of inventory sitting somewhere. Even August’s 5033 vehicles sold is probably just 39% of the cars they produced in August. Something has to give and I suspect it will be new prices followed by used prices dropping even further. Tesla is disrupting the market and will continue to do so as long as they are able to eke out a margin when everyone else is losing heavily on every car produced. I love my Mach-E and I’m not a Tesla fanboy but that is how I see it.
