This thread makes me kind of nervous. I want to get an outlet installed before the car comes next month, but I won't be able to test it. Guess I should get a multimeter as well.
I'm still looking for an electrician to do it. There are quite a few Teslas in our neighborhood, so I know people have gotten chargers installed. We've asked on our Facebook group for recommendations, but haven't gotten any.
When the electrician finished installing my outlet he had me watch him test it with his meter. ~240V across the two hot terminals. I wonder if the CPHF or any other "smart" charger would tell you that it had insufficient voltage???

While my dealer has been fantastic regarding all things directly related to my car, he is no more qualified to recommend an electrician than he is a brain surgeon!
Why would you say that? If he deals with many EV buyers and they all report good experiences with an electrician, why wouldn't he recommend them? That's how referrals work. ??

Question - why do YOU need a multimeter? Simply ask the electrician - can you put a meter on that and show me how it's supplying 240v?

Point taken. I will make sure they test it for me so I can verify that it's done right.

My dealer recommended an electrician. I contacted a total of 6, including the one he recommended. Ultimately picked a different one for multiple reasons, including that they were the only electrician who was an authorized dealer in one of the two charging units I wanted. No availability otherwise.

I did communicate back to my dealer the reasons I did not pick the one he recommended, which included slow to respond, using journeymen electricians whose work would then be checked. And I had to pay the permit fee, other one included it.

Sounds to me like voltage needs to be checked at the outlet. The supplied charger is actually pretty good. i had a ground issue on my outlet and the charger light turned amber. fixed the issue and it went back to blue. Currently you are charging at 110v @24 amps that is why your 50amp breaker will not trip.

I would accept a referral from either someone with expertise in the area, or had first hand experience with the entity he is referring.
In this case, it’s a second hand referral so it’s really not much more than gossip.
Now if the person you spoke to at the dealership drives an EV and recommends the electrician he used, that I would accept.

To each their own I guess.

I wonder. I don't think we have made that mistake yet but we did screw up the 75kVa transformer leg because we didn't bond the neutral correctly so it was throwing a fault. When we called ChargePoint, they checked the data on their end and then asked us to double check our neutral. It was fine in the panel but the transformer feeding the panel wasn't wired correctly. Once we corrected that then the fault went away.

So, I think the CP units are able to detect a fault and there might even be some codes that CP can see on their end. These were CT4000 machines so they have display screens.....I should ask our foreman if there were any codes on the screen. ?

I have a Wallbox on the garage wall, electrician is coming next week to put 240V outlet next to it, but MME will not be anywhere near them for another 2-3 weeks. Can I check that Wallbox is ready before I have the car?

It will tell you in the app if it’s ready.
