currently car-less, but hope to get a MME!

I saw the EV9 in person over the weekend and it looked great. Really liked the dimensions. But I refuse to overpay for an EV with that low of a range.

I sat in two different EV9s in Florida - while bringing my R1S to both for comparison.

The GT-Line has a very nice interior and good usable space. Just from closing the doors.. I can tell the cabin is well sealed like the Telluride so it should be quiet compared to the noisy Mach-E (and Teslas and Rivians).

The range and lack of ground clearance might be dealbreakers for me.

Agreed. Should have a 129kwh battery to achieve much better range with AWD. The RWD model at at 201 hp is ridiculous on a ev. I have a GTPE and new model y AWD long range. Great to have a ev get 300 miles highway when doing 65mph ac on. At 70mph range drops to 275.

Range is not great in my opinion....at least for the awd models. The super fast charging speed is nice but good luck finding a reliable public charger that will charge at that rate. I love the way it looks and was considering trading in our mini van for one but really leaning toward no with the range as I would want awd.

Car and Driver range test (constant 75mph) for EV9 GT-Line was 240 miles (270 miles EPA range). Yikes. And that's in presumably good weather. I guess it's not terrible since it has 21" wheels?

2024 EV9 RWD Long Range; (201 hp, ?? lb-ft torque)- 99.8 kwH battery, 0-60 in 9.4 secs, range = 336 miles on WLTP (probably ~ 290 miles on EPA) MUCH SLOWER THAN LEAKED SPECS o_O
Our 1983 Honda Preludes did 0-60 in 10.2 sec!

That is similar to the range hit I get on the highway in my MME GT.

I had a look at the configurations and I think they made some weird choices in how restrictive it is.

For example, there is apparently a seven-seater option (three in the middle row) but it's only available on the second of the four trims. If you want proximity sensors surrounding the vehicle, and not just at the back when reversing, then you need to get the highest-level trim.

I don't know that I'd get the seven-seater version, but it's weird that it's not a choice. Same with the proximity sensors, you'd expect there to be something like a "tech package" to add it to at least some of the lower trims.

I'll still plan to see one in person when my local dealerships get them in, but I find that disappointing.

Agreed. I don't like their low degree of customization and odd packaging choices.

It's actually OK.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a45523036/2024-kia-ev9-range-tested/

"That's a better percentage than the real-world results for several other EV SUVs we've tested, such as the Rivian R1S and Cadillac Lyriq (both 72 percent of EPA estimate) and Nissan Ariya (82 percent of EPA estimate). However, some EVs—mostly from German brands—have outperformed their EPA ratings in our testing, so the EV9 isn't quite on that level. Still, it's an impressive result given how big and boxy the EV9 is, as it would be reasonable to assume that such a large vehicle would do worse relative to EPA figures at higher speeds. "

C&D hit 230 mile with the R1S at 75mph with the 131 kWh usable pack. That sounds a tad low but within reason because on the highway I achieve 1.9-2.1 mi/kWh. I think C&D doesn't drive to zero but extrapolates.

I do think EVs need to move to 800V architectures... faster charging, less amps = less heat (higher voltage for the same power level), generally more efficient.

Said the same thing about EV6 First Edition. Some complied. Many did not.
I went to a local Kia dealer when the EV6 first came out and they were asking $10k ADM. I told them I would never pay ADM and the salesperson said that the $10k was the starting point for negotiations. No, not going to happen. I walked out of the dealership, never to return again.
