When I exit my car and walk away, the mirrors fold (and the horn alerts). That is good.

However, if I walk past the car (like doing yard work, or just taking a walk around the neighborhood) the mirrors will unfold and stay unfolded.

This even happens when I get out of the car, and walk away to get the charge cable (mirrors fold/car beeps when I walk away) and then I return to plug in, the mirrors unfold and stay unfolded.

I live on a narrow street, and when I street park, I would like for the mirrors to stay folded until I get in the car and start it (or shift to drive - or reverse).

How do I get the mirrors to stay folded until I actually start the car (or shift away from park)?

I have had cars before with auto-folding mirrors, and never had this kind of issue.

This is the first time I've heard of this issue. Mine behave the way you're hoping/expecting with one difference. The mirrors unfold when the vehicle is unlocked (which is before I've finished opening the door to step in).

Not sure what to advise, other than yeah that is weird.

Sounds like you have your phone in your pocket and you're walking up to the car and unlocking it with PAAK

Sounds like unlock on approach. I have not seen that with my car. I'll have to check the tomorrow.

Yes. But I always have my phone with me. I would hope that the mirrors stay folded until I actually get in the car.

How do I force the mirrors to stay folded until I actually get into and start or otherwise indicate that I am going to drive.

With former cars (and keys in pocket) I could walk past or even up to the cars w/o the mirror unfolding until I actually started the car.

The Mustang logo that is projected onto the ground only works if the mirrors are extended. That is probably why Ford programmed them to unfold on approaching the vehicle, instead of when opening a door. If the mirrors unfold too late, you won't see the ground logo because you'll already be sitting inside the vehicle.

Like mentioned above, if you are carrying your phone, then PaaK doesn't know you aren't going to drive and instead will just be passing by the vehicle. This happens to me all the time as I walk by our driveway to go into our backyard. I haven't checked, but the mirrors probably stay extended like yours are doing.

That is incorrect. The "Puddle Pony" only works with mirrors folded. Shows as you approach.

PAAK is unlocking your car as you walk by it, it's not just unfolding the mirrors. It's doing what it's supposed to do because it thinks you're walking up to the car to get in. So it unlocks the car and the mirrors unfold.

Ya puddle lights only work when they are folded in.

I walk past my car all the time and I'll just see the running lights come on and then shut off when I walk away. My mirrors do not unfold until I walk up to a door and push the button. Even then, if I open say my tailgate and close it, by the time I walk around the side of my car the mirrors are folding back in and PAAK won't let me in again lol

I would think having your PAAK detect you are by the car and then unlocking/unfolding your mirrors would 100% defeat the purpose of the puddle lights as they would turn off the second they turned on.

Maybe PAAK works differently when you approach a car without the puddle lights??? I would assume a First Edition would have puddle lights though.

So, I had this same problem on a road trip recently. The MME was not locking the doors as I (we) walked away from the charger and on to Walmart. I solved the problem temporarily by locking the door with the two finger keypad lock. It took me a while until I realized it wasn’t locking because my wife had her fob and was leaving it in her bag in the car. Now it works.

PAAK is unlocking your car as you walk by it, it's not just unfolding the mirrors. It's doing what it's supposed to do because it thinks you're walking up to the car to get in. So it unlocks the car and the mirrors unfold.
I agree that is what is happening. But why does it not re-fold the mirrors (and relock if car is unlocked) after I am no longer in range?

Regardless, why do you want to keep unlocking your car and risk an issue where this happens? Even if it is supposed to work 100% of the time, it's a computer and computers don't work 100% of the time. I would expect it to not lock on some random occasion no matter what if you're constantly unlocking and locking the car over and over again by walking back and forth.

It 100% is unlocking your car. There's no other function where the mirrors unfold other than walking up to get in the car.

This is not helpful advice but the entire reason I won't use PAAK. I am near my vehicle to often and don't need to to think I'm getting in. In fact, my phone will reach my car from our bedroom (but not my office).
PAAK is great in theory but has it's drawbacks, even if it's working properly.
