I know a tach is not needed in an electric vehicle, but I really miss not having one on the Mach-e.

That could be an OTA for fun. Just imagine those RPMs!

Just take your speedo value and multiply by 9.05. Since there are no gears to shift, no clutch or torque converter whatever the wheels are doing the motors are doing 9.05 times faster.

I'm wondering if the data is available via ODB2. Not as good as on the display but it would still be interesting to see.

That's kinda like missing the oil pressure indicator. You don't need to see how fast the engine is spinning when there is no engine. Showing the RPMs of the electric motors wouldn't really provide the same value since they're permanently connected to the wheels.

If AWD, there would need to be two tachometers....or two needles at least.

I do think a power meter would be nice.

I enjoy it on my i3.

Agreed. It would be nice to see the power flow out of or into the battery. I watch that meter in my Outlander PHEV all the time. Seems like another thing left out of the MME that most other EVs have. I'm really hoping they add a lot more EV related displays in the future.

Yes, and I think this might be one reason why they didn't include one.

Instead of motor speed, which is technically what a tachometer is, I think what might be helpful in this EV context would be a visualization to see how far you have pushed the accelerator, i.e. to see if you are applying 30%, 50%, 80%, etc. throttle. If they could show a similar thing for the brakes, specifically a visualization of how far you can push it before you transition from regen to friction brakes, this would be gold.

NASCAR has something like this that they show at times during their races (see example here, might have to click away lower banner ad).

These sorts of stats would be useful both to gearheads wanting to see how far they are pushing it and also people trying to apply a light touch and maximize regen.

A gauge showing power to the two motors would be nice. You could stack them so you see the power to each motor (as well as relative percentage), and they are stacked to show the full power.

Full power on the Premium AWD should be ~275 kW.

I was gonna say....in a direct drive situation, it's trivial to derive RPM from indicated speed.

Unfortunately not. It's fun to see power output and regen meter on my i3, even though it isn't numbered or anything, it's just fun to watch.

Would love actual meters showing power to both motors and regen levels on the Mach-E.

it wouldn't bee TOO hard to add an eMeter to show actual power in/out... just require adding a shunt at the main battery terminal, and wiring to a monitor gauge. something like this:

https://www.evwest.com/catalog/prod...ucts_id=138&osCsid=3ol13rqgm50uuv8s4rf2cgdr94

although they are intended for pack voltage <350vDC .... not sure what the end-of-charge voltage is for the MME?

....or it could just be a requested software upgrade to change the display a little bit since I'm sure this data is being captured in the background to calculate 'remaining range' and all that already
