When I called my dealer to schedule the update, they told me that the update is not available yet and even quoted a letter they had received stating that the update would be available later this year. Who's right?
Unless you have a 2025, the update is not officially available yet.

Some people have reported their dealer did the update on older cars anyways when they weren’t supposed to, but it’s unclear if that still counts or if they will have to do it again later when the official update for older vehicles is made available.

Unfortunately if someone has had the update done at a dealer and their vehicle was not a 2025 MY, they will need to have it done when the 21-24MY software is made available.

Frustrating, I know, but to the dealer's credit they were likely trying to have it fixed quickly for their customers.

Looks like you have a 2023 MY? It's not available yet. Only for 2025 models.

2021 - 2024 Model Year Vehicles – When the update is available, you will receive a letter in the mail with instructions to have it installed at your local Ford Dealer.
Thanks, I missed that - (or I was wishin' and hopin') ?

@Ford Motor Company - your FAQ doesn’t say what this recall software update actually does or how it “fixes” the 12v battery issue. Can you elaborate?

There are a number of problems with the 12v battery design, at least one of which cannot be fixed with a software update.

To start, the 12v battery appears to be either under-spec’d for the demands of the electronics in this vehicle, or the battery management software (the EV version of an alternator) is not keeping the 12v adequately charged. There is absolutely no reason why these 12v batteries are routinely failing between 3-4 years. Does your recall make changes here?

Second, burying the 12v (1) under plastic cladding and a stabilizer bar (2) in a frunk that is very difficult to open if the battery dies, is STUPID design. In fact, rather than try to describe the Rube Goldberg procedure for getting the frunk open if the battery dies, your FAQ simply includes a link to the instructions, which speaks to the complexity.

You evidently were unconcerned with location of the 12v because your then lead engineer on the Mach E project, Darren Palmer, proudly boasted this…

And yet, 5 model years later you have not fixed this design.
really? this is a weird edge case. .... I guess I like the way they designed the car better than the way those who don't design anything complain about it.

Edgy take, bro. I could accept “I don’t really care about the design” but you’re the first I’ve heard that actually prefers the battery being buried under plastic cladding held together by brittle little clips, beneath a hood that requires a little port in the bumper to access leads to attach a battery to “jump” open the hood in the event the 12v dies. :thumbs up:

I sincerely wish Ford would consider a manual key latch release on the tailgate. When this happened to me the 12v latch release on the frunk also failed. All available updates were installed at the time.

Ford may want to do better at alerting dealers about this since it seems there's a LOT of miss-communication.

My dealership called earlier this week wanting to schedule mobile tech visit for installation of this update. I tried explaining that it wasn't available for 21-24 model years yet, but the person was confident it is available (as indicated in OASIS/etc they said). I declined the offer that day.

Fast forward to yesterday when I called to schedule an appointment for another issue and the service tech again asked if I wanted to go ahead and take care of this recall update, I told them again that all indication from Ford says it is not available for my car but told them they are free to try!

Let me know which dealership you have been working with and I'll provide the feedback to the team.

It’s kind of on the dealers for not reading or paying attention to the notice. It was clearly stated when the fix was made available that it was ONLY for 2025. But dealers started contacting people with older cars anyways.

Hopefully a second generation Mach-E will incorporate this, but I don’t see us getting locks retrofitted for existing Mach-Es.

Agreed. My point was for future model years. I don't believe it needs to be a generational change however.

Seeing as how it's on the PTS front page and at the very top of the list of alerts it should be PRETTY HARD TO MISS....but apparently it is ?‍♂
