Hello. Has anyone had any real-word experience with the Mustang Mach e forward collision avoidance system? IHSA gives it a “superior” rating, noting that it prevented front crashes for vehicle-to-vehicle and pedestrians in both day and night conditions. However, when I tried it in a parking lot with obstacles (tall boxes) it just barreled right through them. The backup crash prevention system works well. thanks!

Mine worked (too) well on the one occasion it was set off. I felt there was room to stop and was stopping; my MME slammed on the brakes and yelled at me to be more careful. I have avoided trying to replicate the experience. It’s possible yours isn’t turned on?

Try to cover your boxes with aluminum foil.... Empty cardboard boxes might be invisible to the radar.

Mine saved my ass--several times. That being said, it is in the shop right now because it failed and would not work after a week.

Wow.

A guy was on here some years back, and tried a bunch of things. Then he was directed to RTFM and understand what the system is, and is not designed to do, before he damaged his vehicle or setoff the airbags.

Read the owner's manual carefully to understand how the system works and its limitations. Hint: Forward collision avoidance is not designed to react to cardboard boxes.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I’ll have to wait for IIHS to come out with a video showing a demo. Why would someone not want to at least test a critical safety system such as front/rear crash protection (think: ABS) unless you completely trust the auto makers (sure you do)

Guess that logic means you should test your airbags too. Let us know how it goes.

I reside deep in the woods and I have tried to keep it as natural as possible. In other words, it's not a landscaped estate. ?

Anyways, this time of year I often have to get in the sideXside and slowly make my way down the private gravel road and snip away the vines and branches encroaching. As you stated, the reverse collision avoidance is very sensitive, and I reverse about 300' before I can turn and exit the rest of the way in Drive. It's a battle to do the reverse portion without the car & truck (2022 F150 Powerboost) slamming on the brakes if some leaves reflect back whatever it is that they reflect.
Moving forward, I only get the warning beeps and the camera launch, on occasion.

I do notice that Drive is very sensitive to some things during Adaptive Cruise that are definitely over reactions. On my daily commute I have 2 places that I temporarily disable it in the Mach-E because there's some kind of sensing that triggers a strange sort of decrease in speed that feels like the system is indecisive. Whatever it is it's not something in the road or another vehicle. So I would have to assume it's part of the accident avoidance logic and is a false reading.

Stuff like that really doesn't bother me much since I'm not expecting today's driver assist technology to be perfect. I'm amazed it's as good as it has become so quickly, to be honest.

Amazing vehicle. Not just the fact that it's an EV. It's quite the rolling ensemble of modern automotive engineering. So much of it would be science fiction come true for my departed grandfather. My dad, soon to be 93, is a little less awestruck, but he does marvel and ask a lot of questions.

MIne works great and has saved me a couple times. I did have the dealer do the tech update for the cable that was needed on 21s.

Wow... You know this is a reply to a message from over a year ago, right?

Anyway, I see someone else has already replied to you with the information needed.
