I use Apple map since I can easily select a contact’s address or a saved location.
If I’m searching for a place before I get in the car, the place is ready to press go.
CarPlay’s like a secretary who doesn’t need to take breaks or holidays, turns up on time, needs no coffee and doesn’t complain or gossip ?

To wifey’s disgust, the voice I use is the female American which says OK in a lovely keen to please sort of way?

Hands down google maps. I love the AndroidAuto UI and how google maps works within it. I can't stand most automakers antiquated UIs and work flows. I only switch to the Ford app when I am routing to the charger I have selected.
This. My only tweak is to play music from USB instead of AA Bluetooth so I don't overtax the phone.

Google Maps is my go to. I haven't tested it yet but there is a Here WeGo app you can try in CarPlay/AA so you don't have to juggle between apps to control audio. Here Maps is what Ford Sync uses for it's navigation so if you prefer that those, but still want CarPlay/Android Auto controls all easily reachable, you can give that a shot.

Carplay…Google around town, Waze on freeways but don’t use much public charging and can easily plan ahead for that.

Apple. No question.

I keep my Mach E screen in dark mode. I find it far too bright + distracting in light mode. I find the Ford maps very hard to read in dark mode. Lines are too thin, contrast is way too low. There is no way to glance at it and see where you are/what’s going on.

In comparison Apple Maps is very easy to read because everything is a reasonable size and contrast ratio.

I also FAR prefer the visual aesthetic of Apple Maps. I have Siri. I can show the map and my podcast player on the screen at the same time. I still get the binnacle direction integration. The only missing thing is preconditioning, but I basically never need that as I rarely roadtrip.

That’s all secondary. Maps I can’t read easily in a car without pulling over are worthless to me. And that’s unforgivable.

Compare these two shots (sorry, hard to find pics online)

Just wondering what most Mache owners use for navigation. I find myself flipping between the Ford and Apple during a long trip. I don’t like the Ford navigation because it seems delayed, not giving me enough warning on a turn or exit. Apple is better but of course the battery level is off after a charge, doesn‘t seem to know that the car is charged. Thoughts?
Ford Nav
I have used Apple, Waze, and Android Google maps. Ford is best overall for me. There are still some quirks like losing my recents and some data after certain updates.

Apple Maps exclusively.

For years, I've followed Justin O'Beirne's work on the evolution of both Google and Apple Maps. The articles are a sobering look at how absolutely hard it is to not only make maps function well, but to do so consistently across all markets. This is why Apple Maps was bad until it was good on a per-area basis. Google started many years prior and Apple was catching up.

The other important fact is locations are rolled out in a set, not world-wide at once. What works great in one area may not be in a different area. The world is a big place. I've driven elusively in California, and for the past few years Apple Maps meets my needs. Yes, I'm advantaged by being in one of the markets that are first to get a new data update, but they do eventually reach the other markets. Your location may very and evolve through time.

This is one major reason Ford's navigation is a non-starter for me. It's more than just sourcing data from a third-party. There's a level of constant gardening where Google and Apple have set a very high bar for. I do not see Ford coming close to that level of quality.

In features, Ford Nav doesn't match the level connivence that Apple Maps (and the other apps) provide. I'm able to enter my location on my phone before I go out, hop into the car, and hit GO when the car turns on. I put locations in the calendar so my phone tells me when to leave with traffic with a button to navigate showing up in the car when I turn it on.

The feature I loose with not using Ford Nav is preconditioning. However in California, there's no advantage for the long road trips to warrant me doing so. I do wish the Apple Maps EV integration would work with preconditioning, but as of now it's not so much of need for me to switch. When the Apple Maps EV integration went online, it was a boon.

I also confess the one time I started my SF -> LA road trip with Ford Nav, it would constantly direct me to take side streets every other exit off the highway even without traffic. ??‍♂

Ford's Nav simply isn't the center of life as our phones are. I take advantage of the features the phone offers to make my life easier. This is the fundamental reason I feel a lot of the in-car services are a non-starter. All phone manufactures are in a better position to provide a better car experience than what any car manufacture can offer.

Only had my car a few weeks. So, for now, still using the Ford navigation.

To confirm, that navigation system doesn't monitor live traffic and accidents, right, like Waze does?

I rarely use maps as I've been driving pretty much locally but tried the Ford nav today and was pleasantly surprised to see turn directions show up on my center screen. And those were dead on accurate.
