My 2021 MachE has error message collision not available and front camera fault. I took to dealer and was told I need 20 hours of updates that I cannot do myself OTA @199. an hour. I have never been contacted or knew about these updates. All my updates have been completed fine OTA Has anyone else had this happen?

$4,000 for updating modules out of warranty? @Ford Motor Company might want to look into this, at this rate this car, and all other software integrated cars will be worthless in the used market. I bought an extended for this reason, but this approach to software will put them out of business.

Extended warranty didn’t cover it. They knocked the price down, but that is not a way to keep customers coming back to trade in. Last Ford I’ll ever buy.
PM me the VIN to see if I see anything that can help.

If something is broken that an update will fix, extended warranty should cover it.

Now if you are just wanting them to spend a couple days of shop time doing “all available updates,” that is optional and would cost you out of pocket.

Just because an update shows as “available” for your car doesn’t mean you need to force it at the dealership.

Did that error message go away? Sometimes it’s just a dirty or wet camera.

Both Ford and my dealer confirmed that any module covered by your extended warranty would be covered for a failure due to software within the module. You will need to escalate thru Ford.

Right this is very wrong and will be the death of EVs for Ford. They need to start updating 2021 also!

Better not happen with mine, I'll drive it right through the dealership, then call a lawyer

I think it's fair to say these situations are uncharted waters and, before piling onto Ford, I'd like to see how they get resolved. Relatively few Mach-E's are off warranty at this point and the OTA process is obviously a recent development. IMHO, it's pretty obvious to a neutral observer that charging owners for this stuff is not fair, and it's hard to believe this will withstand market pressure.

I've had enough of @Ford Motor Company. They turned me into a bitter mme owner that once was overjoyed, loved his mme, loved talking about it to everyone, and was onboard from the minute I saw the announcement. Now I can't wait to sell it and it's all thanks to @Ford Motor Company. They're just not ready to enter this market. They generated a lot of hype by using buzzwords and "investing" in all these ev things and then they backed out and went back on everything they used to get the hype.

I'm very interested in the topic of dealership only updates beyond factory warranty.
-Are updates for modules in original bumper to bumper covered under warranty for those modules they pertain to?
-Are updates for modules/components for the motors, charging system and HVB covered to the 160,000km 8 year EV component warranty?
-Can you clearly differentiate between the two when looking at updates?
-Can you pick and choose what updates to apply?
-I thought that about 95% or more of updates eventually come in over OTA, with a select few being dealership only because of the modules updated and how they get updates. This may have even changed since Ford has modified things with other OTA's that broadened what an OTA could update.

I have never used FDRS, but many on this forum apply their own updates with a laptop, cable and temp license to FDRS. They could speak to the details better than I could.

I'm pretty sure the update that fixes the front camera errors is an OTA (assuming you don't have a hardware or cable issue). it just changes how the system reacts to dirt, heat, and sunlight when it interferes so much that it can't see properly. switched it from a per drive permanent error, to a quick cutout and then re-enable when it triggers.
