Updates are delivered by the cellular network or wifi. From the manual:

" Software updates are delivered wirelessly using the vehicle modem or Wi-Fi. "
And virtually never does it happen via WiFi.

How can you tell? Do you need to turn off wifi to get updates? I haven't had an update since September.

Loving my brand new 2024 Premium. I charged to 100% yesterday with my apartments slow chargers, parked it, then woke up this morning to 98% and about a 15mi range loss. It had only been parked about 8 hours. Does this seem normal?
I used to charge to 80%. The problem with that is sometimes (especially in cold weather) I would unplug the car and on have only 3 bars out of 5 illuminate in the charging ring. Same thing. 1-2% SOC drop but that meant I had to check the actual SOC to see that I wasn't at 60%.

I now charge to 85% and four bars are always illuminated after charging.

I believe that in Ford's PTS (a web portal) every OTA update has a parameter for whether it is delivered via Wi-Fi or not.
And according to the PTS gurus, only 2 updates, since the beginning of OTA, had the Wi-Fi tag. Both were very small and were configuration edits, rather than new software/firmware.
In fact, one of them was to edit the Asbuilt values in the modem itself, which was to address a potential cellular modem issue that prohibited the vehicle from getting OTA updates. Go figure. :)

But yeah, there are lots of reasons folks believe Wi-Fi is an alternative method for receiving OTA updates. Primarily because Ford mentions the possibility in documentation.

The manual is incorrect. Many members over the years have monitored their WiFi traffic and have found that the information between the car and their router is very small and almost always outbound. ??

So even if the car is connected through wifi, it will use the cellular connection? Seems odd.

Correct. Ford engineers determine is it can be sent via WiFi, cellular or both.

Small updates would be ok for WiFi but if it's a big update you need to maintain coverage throughout the entire update. And you may want to push it ASAP and not wait until WiFi is available.

If I got in the car and I couldn't move it in the middle of a big update but I needed to go somewhere I wouldn't be happy

As @Snakebitten said, the stuff actually sent over WiFi hasn’t even been coded images. It’s only been configuration files. They’ve been Kilobyte sized and Megabyte sized files. ??

I also park in an underground structure with zero service or WiFi so could the car be trying hard to find service?
After five months of owning a 2024 AWD Premium, it’s normal for range or state of charge to dissipate over night, mainly due to environmental conditions. Having a home charger, I just keep it plugged in. On a cold (36 degrees) day like today, range is showing 216 miles at 90%; as the day warms up range goes up to around 240.

Not sure if this is relevant to you but thought I would share.

One time last year in the winter, I left my car outside overnight with an 80% SOC. While the SOC did not change, (would not expect it to) the GOM sure did.

I’ll call this a design error. It’s an error because when you charge to any number the shutoff point is #.000000.
Any usage beyond 0.00001 will result in a decrease in the number displayed.
It would have been better if there was some sort of a buffer, but there isn’t.
