Even the ID.4 free 30 minute charging is a problem. All they do is charge for 29 minutes, unplug, re-plug back in for another 29 minutes and repeat....until they reach 100%.
This happened to me last Saturday. All 4 EA stations occupied, 2 with ID4s. Guy comes out of Walmart to his ID4, watches it for 5 minutes, unplugs, waits, replugs, then heads off to Popeye's Chicken across the parking lot.

oh - and the title's misleading. This is the first EA increase in at least 2 years. They announced a while ago they were raising prices by 6 cents a kwh; this is just reiterating it.
I thought it went from $0.35 to $0.43 last year?

This current increase was announced last month, but I just got their email today.

Slightly off topic I think someone posted how much would I have to charge for the 4$/months and make it worth it. That I am saving still just wondering.

$4 saves you $0.12 per kwh so you would need 33.33kwh. If you dcfc less than once a month cancel before it renews and signup again before you charge next time

I would need a total of 33.33kwh or more to make the 4$ a month worth it.

Just got the email, I hope Shell stations become more common here in Iowa, their built/maintained in conjuction with the energy provider here and the prices are much cheaper.

How is free charging the problem? Isn't EA just charging the manufacturer for the costs, probably at a slightly reduced amount, but they're still paying for it, no?
anytime the user of something isn't paying for it (especially if someone else is), it encourages behavior that makes other peoples lives worse.

Using DCFC instead of home charging - for instance.

It doesn't take a very deep understanding of the number of DCFC relative to the rate of new EVs being sold to see that the now rare occurrence of waiting for a charge will become really common. "Free" charging exacerbates this.

Exactly. Free charging increases the utilization which lowers cost per kWh. The EA $0.05 price increase covers the commodity cost increase of the supply. EA doesn’t make kWh, they distribute kWh.

I think the plans that give 30 minutes free per session encourage people to “top off” and tie up the chargers.

Nope. It was $.43/kwh in September of 2021 when I did my NJ-FL-NJ trip. I actually had enough free charging from buying the car, but I kept track of how much it would have cost to compare to my wife's ICE.

Maybe I missed a year somewhere. I could swear it was $0.35 when I got my car in February of 2021.

Maybe it was per minute in Illinois then - it was $.32/min at the time which is close to $.35?

Could have been $0.35 per minute or $0.43 per kWh pricing.

Could be….they say memory is the second thing to go as you get older. I can’t remember what the first thing is.
