I'm not bashing on you. I just don't think whatever is happening is intended. That's just my belief. Either one of us could be right/wrong. The fact that there's no indicator makes me feel like it's almost guaranteed to be a bug.

As far as deletion of the paw, I haven't seen where that's a thing yet for Ford. Tesla and Rivian both apply the parking brake instead of using a paw or other mechanical lock on the transmission so I could see Ford doing that at some time. I know it was discussed in one of Munro's videos but when or if that happens we don't know yet.
Agreed…we have nothing from Ford directly and formally announced that the pawl is going to be deleted it the future.

Also agreed, it could be an intended feature or just a bug…but if it is a bug, I like it as even a basic Toyota Corolla has this intended feature. I see no reason that the MME (and virtually all cars with an electronic parking brake) should not do this every time, and not just when the MME is parked on a steep hill.

We're all going to love it until the pads weld themselves to the rotors in the rain.

I bet you a bunch of ford engineers are laughing their asses off right about now as they read through page after page of comments wondering what the hell they changed with this update. Assholes!

What are these "parking pawls" that people keep talking about? I just pull in until the car tells me I'm getting too close to my lawn mower and stop. Oh, and I have noticed the parking brake turn on lately too
It's the thing that makes the car jerk around like a dog on a short leash when you over shoot going from drive to rev and hit park. :D

Wonder if those whose brake doesn't auto engage need the parking brake wire replaced, or vise versa :p

Please note- the “brake” light does not illuminate on the dash unless you lift the parking brake switch, however, if your radio is off you can hear the parking brake engage when the knob is rotated into “P”.
Yep, that “new sound” was concerning me a bit today, but once I read this thread on the Forum I realized it was definitely the recognizable sound of the parking break engaging or disengaging. I hear it too. Specially I hear it disengage after I put the car in reverse as I’m pulling out of my garage. And I just got 4.2.6 a few days ago during travel.

just don't shift into park, open the door and then turn off the car, park brake will apply w/ door open in drive. I don't even shift into park I just shut it off.

Thank you…I thought there was something saying that I would come from more than just Monroe. I just could not remember where I saw/read that. Thank you for confirmation. I am fairly confident that it parking brake engagement for all MME’s will come soon if you don’t have it.

It’s weird, I am up to date but mine is not auto engaging, and I’m ok with that. I have the prawl and I’d rather use that than wear out my Parking brake. I don’t know if the current electronic parking brake is robust enough to be activated and deactivated multiple times a day.

I don't think it wears out the brakes, the wheels are not turning. The electric solenoid is super robust. I have owned at least 7 cars with electronic parking brakes. They never needed to be serviced and I don't know anyone that has had an electronic parking servo fail.

Brakes on most cars is very well engineering...

I am much more concerned about the power folding mirrors that open and close every time I open the trunk. Those motors and parts will wear out long before.

Since I never put it in park, I've not felt the rocking and everyone else complains about. I come to a complete stop using 1PD, and then press the power button. No need for the extra step. Although when I take it to the car wash I do put it in park so the car wash kids don't need to turn it on again.
