Not sure if everyone saw this, seems like there have been issues with the order in activating ChargePoint charging through the FordPass app:

They couldn't say "Plug and Charge" won't work?

It’s not plug and charge, it’s blue oval network activation not working with ChargePoint properly if people plug in before hitting activate charger on the app.

I just installed the ChargePoint app directly, and it has a wallet card for the iPhone.

Is there any advantage to having these networks centralized through FordPass? Seems like the downsides are things like what's mentioned above.

I guess this is really only an issue at DCFC stations since all of the public ChargePoint level 2 stations I've ever seen keep the plugs locked to the station until you've activated a charging session.

Hmm, true, I guess there could be some where the locks are broken

It’s good if you don’t want to install a dozen apps for people who want to keep it simple. It’s a good feature. If you want more data, definitely better to use the ChargePoint app.

The only advantage (other than using one less app) is not having to put $10 into your ChargePoint account. I just use the ChargePoint app.

I do think it’s better for the less technically inclined people that aren’t like us, it actually works really well. Like I never use the Shell app, cause it’s easier to find the charger I am using through FordPass sometimes.

I saw it, but largely ignored it. If I am not using plug and charge, I just use the network app. More annoying, but tends to work better. I also stick to EA whenever possible.

Yes. All the CT-4000 (32A) and CP-6000 (80A) series have locking receivers for the J1772 connector so you have to use the CP app to get it to release anyway. The CPF50 and CPHF are just regular holsters of course. You might see the CPF50s at fleet and multi-family installations and if you have access then your CP app would enable them to charge your car (assuming the owner set a charging fee schedule and allows public use).

The existing express L3 stations have this quirk so if you want to use Blue Oval then you will need to follow those steps. The next gen units that are able to charge 2 vehicles at once at 150kW min each are already set up to just plug and charge. Those new machines are pretty awesome on paper and in the lab. Let's see how they do out in the real world. If they work as designed then most users will be very happy. The slowest machines are 150kW and it goes up from there depending on how many power modules are installed in the supply towers.
