Because I am in a rented house and the owner won't allow modifications...
Does he allow house fires??? Lol Sorry bad joke, but using adapters is just not safe. Plugging into it without having a professional double checking it is also incredibly not safe for yourself.

Can you YOLO it, sure, do people do it, absolutely. If you are willing to take on the liability then more amps to ya.

Ok, I took the advice of the posters here and got a 14-50 plug installed, thanks a ton for your posts. Long story short, the electrician was able to use an unused pool electrical circuit (50 amp) and wire the 14-50 receptacle. However, the pool circuit had a neutral wire that was cut. He said that it’s not a big deal, as it’s grounded. First question, is that an issue? Secondly, using the Ford charger I’m only getting 20 mph of charge. Is that normal? I had read somewhere that the included charger gives you 30 mph….

Glad to see you came to a good conclusion.

20 to 24 miles per hour is all we get on the Ford charger.

20 miles per hour is what the charger should deliver.

The Ford Connected Charge Station you can buy shows 30 miles.

What is the best one can get with something like chargepoint flex or juicebox?

They're about the same as the Ford Connected Charge Station. With proper wiring in your home, they can support up to a 60 amp circuit, offering the Mach-E it's maximum intake of 48A at 240V.

With a NEMA 14-50 receptacle/outlet, you're looking at a maximum charge rate of 40A at 240V. That's still really great and will refill a completely empty MME to 100% in less than one night.

IF you upgrade a receptacle in the garage; 1st I doubt the landlord would even notice and 2nd just ask him if you want to be on the up and up. If your doing it on your dime, and his property gets the Upgrade to support EV charging for all his future tenants; I'm pretty sure he'd be like "Oh, yeah no problem". I also recommend letting a qualified electrician do the work!!!

For your first question, it is a bit odd to wire a 14-50R outlet without a neutral, and it is technically “wrong” since some 14-50 devices use the neutral for a 120V internal circuit. However, for your EVSEs it is just fine - none (or almost none) use the neutral, and the Ford mobile charger definitely doesn’t (I’ve tested). The ground is what you need for safety, and the two hot wires for powering the EVSE.
