Congrats on the new car, and thanks for the comparisons between the two.

In late 2021 we test drove the ID.4 and the Mach-E, fully anticipating we were going to pick the ID.4 due to lower price. But then we test drove both cars, and the ID.4 was both less exciting (expected), and more importantly, the tech/center console software was literally unusable. We couldn't figure out how to do many functions while driving it. Worst tech I have ever seen in a car. So we went Mach-E, have been super happy, and never looked back.

But with improved software it looks like the ID.4 is competitive again - just depends on what you're looking for in a car.
Before I bought my mach-e i drove the id4 and felt the same way about it. I like the car overall but the powertrain/tech was just bad in it. Honestly I didn't even consider the new id4 until I saw the price and then I drove it and was very impressed
Congrats on the upgrade/sidegrade/downgrade to the ID4.

If VW were to offer the ID7 Sport Tourer.
Why does Europe get the cool ones?

This would've been my preference. VW can take all my money for that?

A Bev and a Hybrid

Now that's a great combo. Covers all the typical bases and makes owning a BEV completely painless regarding use case limitations...
Agreed. Our Maverick Hybrid and our MME give us options regarding gas prices/availability and power outages. But with our solar panels we practically drive the MME free. And the Maverick gets 40 to 45 MPG.

No. The main screen is. Small one i think is 5. IMO the one in the mach e could've been smaller, same with id4. I'd rather have all of it on a heads up display with small spedo as backup.

The biggest issue I continue to read is just that the hybrid owners don't charge that battery. They just use it as a ICE car. I guess it makes them "feel better" at purchase but are just too lazy to take literally 5 seconds to plug her in after work. I guess this Generation behind me (I call them the "Door Dash" Gen), those willing to pay 20% more instead of getting their a** off the couch and run to the store are just not my "cup of tea". Damn, I really turning into the "get off my lawn kid" guy when I re-read this. But "F" it, that's how I see it.
Agree 98%. But one Door Dash Driver might keep 20 other vehicles at home during the day, saving gas/energy. Plus, I think (without any proof) that most Hybrids are not plug-in.

That's a PHEV. Too many are only hybrid.

After owning a Fusion PHEV for 3 years, our chief complaints were:

1) Anemic electric only range of 21 miles.
2) In winter, car runs gas engine to warm up and provide heat.
3) Software not smart enough to only use electric on local roads, not highway. Owner required to switch to electric only from home to on ramp, then turn it off, then turn it back on when exiting highway. And, see #2 which overrode the mode.
4) Gas engine was pathetic. Gas and electric helped for on ramps but engine was screaming.

We don't plan on going back to anything with a gas engine.

That was the same on my Clarity. God help you if the battery was too low and you needed to get on a freeway or go up a serious hill. With battery assist it was fine, without, you were driving a civic engine with a heavier vehcile.

Being able to place the car where you want it when you merge is one of my favorite things about the Mach-E.

Interesting thread. I am actively shopping for my first EV. Current contenders are Mach-E, ID4, and Lyriq. Haven't had a chance to look at Ioniq 5 nor Ariya yet.
mach-e is better than the ID4, Lyriq and definitely the Ariya. Ioniq 5…to be fair, may be better overall, but I think the Mach E looks better.
