I would never consider ICE its outdated at this point
Not sure ICE is outdated , the perfect combo right now is Hybrid. I think Toyota is considering going hybrid only on an article I read yesterday. Ford said their 3 row EV SUV that was cancelled will go hybrid as well.

A Bev and a Hybrid

Now that's a great combo. Covers all the typical bases and makes owning a BEV completely painless regarding use case limitations.

Good to hear that the 2024 ID4 is a much improved ID4

Me neither. Pro S plus is non existent. My guess is there probably want a super high take rate for those cars and VW just axed it to make assembly simpler by having fewer configurations. But in Germany you can get one with a heads up display. Go figure?
I saw a rumor that the VAG dev team has been stuck dealing with a serious software problem due to the front camera on the Pro S Plus line - which would explain why the 24 series of Pro S Plus vehicles haven't actually hit the market yet, if true.

I'm speculating here - but software has to be constantly updated and improved. Bug fixes, new features, support for new vehicles, etc. That takes a lot of expensive labor, so both Rivian and VW can benefit by sharing this cost.
Don't I know it. ;)
I worked in the Systems department of an insurance company for 16 years. Always something!

It's remarkable that in current times we are discussing/debating commuting vehicles with torque numbers 400 and beyond.

I grew up in the "muscle car" era.

Driving up to high school and parking an ID4 on the same row as the cool dudes with the Mach1, Chevelle SS, Road Runner Hemi, GTO...... All with their fat tires with the traction of wood and the glorious exhaust......

I roll up in pure silence and get the WTH is that stares. ???

We are so jaded.
Torque in the neighborhood of 400 is pretty weak in my brand. My T/A puts more torque through its two rear tires than my GT-PE puts through all 4. It also wakes up the neighbors with its backing-up sound. ????

Leave it to VW to figure out software lol.

As much as I love EVs I can appreciate a nice motor and exhaust! There's a hellcat i park next to and it sounds amazing when it's started

But what was the torque of the Trans Am in oem format?

My mom had a gorgeous Chocolate Brown/Gold Hood Eagle. 6.6 liter, if I recall. T-tops and beautiful wheels too.

Was not a torque'r, by today's standards

As someone who used to own an ID.4, I disagree with everything here except for more interior space (which is mostly offset by also lacking a frunk).

The two pros you missed that are real though are way better turning radius and way better charging curve.

Overall I hated our ID.4 though. Would not recommend unless you’re able to get a really good deal and know what you’re getting into
I’m with you - the 21-23 ID.4 was trash except for ride quality. I seriously doubt the ID.4 has more range because they did not improve efficiency that much in 24 and the battery is small (82kWh) compared to the MME (99kWh).

The lack of 360 camera and premium audio were also dealbreakers.

We have a 2023 ID4 and the updates for 2024 sounds great. I would not recommend a 2023 or earlier though. And I still don’t understand why it so difficult to implement a 360 camera on the ID4.
It was offered in the Pro S Plus trim in 22 but cut along with the premium audio. European models can get a HUD also.

I'm seeing about a 30 mile range bump at 70mph compared to my mach-e. I can't speak for 24s with the new ford motor but my guess is they are pretty similar. If this was a 21 id4 mach-e might have an advantage

The 1970 Pontiac engine in the T/A when it was stock was factory rated at 500 lbs/ft (the little brother engines made 445 lbs/ft). The original Oldsmobile engine in it was… dismal. The Olds lasted less time in my garage than it did in the car on the truck from Van Nuys to the Bay Area, since I bought the donor car before I took delivery of the T/A. ??

Great for you! The ID Buzz is going to be interesting. The looks will appeal to some but the range is not great.
I was pretty interested in the buzz, but range is abysmal and the single motor STARTS at $60k so I won't be getting a buzz.

My 21 ID.4 had 3.0-3.1 mi/kWh efficiency at 70mph. My MME AWD ER gets around the same efficiency but the battery is much larger so range will be better. 2 years later I still get around 270-280 miles on the highway which I accomplished a few weekends ago driving across FL back and forth in a day (rocket launch on the space coast + Tampa event)

I've owned more efficient EVs - Model 3 RWD (4.0-4.2mi/kWh), Model Y LR (3.6 mi/kWh), and BMW i4 (3.7 mi/kWh) and in reality only the i4 and Model Y had more range due to aerodynamics.
