tell me about it lol
Great for you! The ID Buzz is going to be interesting. The looks will appeal to some but the range is not great.

Positive comments regarding software makes me wonder why VW partnered with Rivian to use/develop software?
Thoughts?

Hi everyone.

I just purchased my 2024 VW ID.4 after trading in my 21 Mach-E first edition and I've noticed a few things

ID.4 Pros over Mach-E

Better Seats
WAY better suspension (honestly wasn't expecting a big difference but damm that mach-e does not ride anywhere as nice)
More trunk space
Much better software
Significant range bump (over EPA)
More torque
(probably more reliable too)

ID.4 Cons

Sound system is just eh
no frunk
Travel assist works super good but not handsfree
Doesn't corner as nice
Looks arent as sharp as my old grabber blue mach-e

Honestly, anyone cross-shopping these cars cant go wrong but the ID,4 deal I got was 16k off sticker and over 10k less than the equivalent mach-e

How can you see the software with the size of the screen in those cars ??

We have a 2023 ID4 and the updates for 2024 sounds great. I would not recommend a 2023 or earlier though. And I still don’t understand why it so difficult to implement a 360 camera on the ID4.

The ID.4 is a great car, especially for the price. A friend of mine needed to replace her 17 year old car, and was initially looking at hybrids, when she realized the ID.4 was in her price range and totally practical for her use case. I adore my Mach-E, but am glad there are more and better EVs comtinuing to come onto the market, and becoming more and more affordable.

I've been in a loaner Ford Escape for like 10 days now and honestly the turning radius seemed similar. Definitely better than the mach-e but I didn't think it was anything crazy.

I honestly think most of the ID.4 issues were from its bad software but the new infotainment is MILES better than the old one and really was the only reason I didn't get one before. New rear motor is very punchy.

I do think the mach-e overall is probably a better vehicle assuming it stays working long enough and not having any more junction box failures.

In a perfect world ford would use VWs new software and charging curve, fix the junction box and leave everything else alone
Have they increased the screen size(s)?

I'm speculating here - but software has to be constantly updated and improved. Bug fixes, new features, support for new vehicles, etc. That takes a lot of expensive labor, so both Rivian and VW can benefit by sharing this cost.

You downgraded in style, performance, and features (frunk, Blue Cruise) -- so not exactly equivalent. Therefore it seems perfectly logical for the selling price to come in below a MachE.
I will say in my testing so far travel assist is far superior to bluecruise in PERFORMANCE. Obviously not handsfree, but id4 uses a capacitive wheel so you don't have to tug on it. It was driving around turns with the wheel at almost 90* in travel assist mode. Bluecruise would never do that. I also find curve slowdown is much much smoother.

Styling is subjective of course, and honestly the mach-e is a more attractive car in my opinion. No frunk sucks but honestly the interior volume feels larger and the trunk is more usable due to it being deeper.

I just think the over 8k price difference is hard to justify for cars that on paper perform similar in day to day life.

Interesting thread. I am actively shopping for my first EV. Current contenders are Mach-E, ID4, and Lyriq. Haven't had a chance to look at Ioniq 5 nor Ariya yet.
I personally would pass on ariya. Too expensive for what it is and nissans software isn't great. Ioniq 5 is a good choice but same problem with Nissan. I drove the blazer and equinox ev before I got the id4 and they do drive really nice. Charging is slower on those than id4/mach-e so keep that in mind.

I really did love my mach-e. Probably my favorite car I've had. It was just plagued with reliability issues and the HVBJB still has not been sorted out after 3 years. I just had no confidence in my car for a road trip anymore.

Granted mine had some wiring damage from an accident so that is largely to blame for most of the more recent issues but there have been some serious hardware defects in mach-e.

Id also take a look at ZDX and Polestar 3/4

Ride quality is better. It sits pretty flat in turns but steering feel is so numb

Me neither. Pro S plus is non existent. My guess is there probably want a super high take rate for those cars and VW just axed it to make assembly simpler by having fewer configurations. But in Germany you can get one with a heads up display. Go figure?

Something else to remember i did NOT have a GTPE so no active dampers on my car. I think that would fix most of my complains about the mach-e being so bouncy

Thank you for sticking with a BEV! I'm not at all tribal about car brands. Just drive trains ?
