Thankfully, today I decided to test the backup passcode entry system. I havent needed it in months, but you know, in the unlikely event that all the recent OTA and FP updates broke something - I decided to test it.

The Enter passcode window popped up reasonably quickly - but one little problem - there isn't a keyboard to enter the passcode on. No amount of tapping on or around things would bring up the keyboard.

I'm on PowerUp 4.2.4 now and havent had to create a new prolile in a year. I think the backup code has worked since then.

Any ideas?

Tap the screen above the line. I.E.- press the “p” in “please enter”.

btw, when you get the keyboard up, the ENTER button is the bottom right arrow that doesn’t say “enter”.

If you don't have a minimum of 8 characters the keyboard won't pop up. (happened to me)

It is really stupid. It should pop up automatically.
You have to tap the box that says enter your passcode.

Thanks to all responders. As I stated in the original post - I tapped all around, including in the enter password area. I've used the backup system a few times, so I am familiar with how it (normally) works.

Weirdly, I just tried to replicate the problem I documented this morning - and can't.

I guess I can pass it off as a passing idiocyncracy - a well supported feature on the Mach e. As long as it doesn't occur when I really need the passcode to work...

I will say that there is a lag, not the speediest software but it’s usually ok. I checked once after an update the there was no passcode at all. I had to reset it

I now check after most updates

This happened to me yesterday; I was stranded with no keyboard. I know how to bring it up and have used it many times, but this time was different. The key fob was at home; PAAK was useless when it has always worked fine, except for a few times I had to use the passcode. I don't know why that happened, but I was good to go. This time, it was a dead puppy. I had to call for a ride home 6 miles to get the FOB and return to the car. Next time, I or one of you reading this may get stranded in a much, much more difficult situation than I did.
The next day, I was still working on getting the PAAK working. Guess I have to get a Faraday bag and store the extra fob in it somewhere as a handy backup.

The keyboard sometimes will not pop up, in which case you’re stuck with powering the car down, locking the doors, then waiting a good distance away for 10 minutes and trying again. ??

The keyboard pops up very reliably whenever you test it. It's less reliable when you need it and are flustered.

I have tested it and had it fail once in a few tries, but on the occasion where I needed it, it actually did pop up. In the test that was a failure I shut it down, locked the doors, and walked away for 10 minutes and it popped up for me. YMMV. ?‍♂?

I'm sitting here stuck, waiting for my neighbor to show up with the fob because of this very same problem.

First the PAAK wouldn't work for a couple of days and the passcode was fussy, but I could always get it to work on the 2nd try by shutting down the car. But this time no matter what I do, I can't get the keyboard to show up. The little blinking cursor shows up after I've tapped the screen, but no keyboard...
Wth... It's the emergency back up ... How the hell is it glitchy?....

The backup code keyboard failed to appear for the 5 weeks I needed the backup code to work - when the recentPaaK outage casued by a Samsung phone update which borked PaaK. Ford Support told me to use the Backup code.

During this time it occurred to me that the Backup code system needs a system display to appear to help the user. Is should say something like this:

"This system is intended for emergency use and therefore includes a Critical Need Detector. Should you ever actually need this feature, its activation will be delayed or disabled depending on the urgency of need detected. Do not curse or swear, do not look enviously at functioning Teslas. Only patience and kind words of homage for ford engineers will work. Alternatively, your best alternative is to exit the vehicle, lock it, and start walking toward your FOB."

FYI for anyone reading this later, you can usually get the keyboard to show up by repeatedly pressing and holding the brake pedal, and/or rebooting the screen by holding the VOL - and right seek buttons on the steering wheel for 10 seconds.
