Well I don’t stop every 2 hours, I stop every 4+. And I can eat a lunch at noon and a dinner at 4-5 without them being 2k calories each.

So me, I do.

Your 6 hour drive would be 1 charge stop around 20 min…assuming we are even talking 3 hours interstate driving kudos to you for not needing to pee at all. But it’s not a big deal.

I made a 533 mile 8.5 hour drive the other day off a single stop…some you seem to have a bigger problem with a lead foot than time needed to charge.
Given I’m no expert since I’ve never done road trips in the Mach E, but from what I understand about the math and charging on the road it’s like this:

You charge 20-80% when road tripping. That’s only 60% of your total range each charge. Driving 75 mph or so that’s 150 miles of range in the summer (2 hours) and even less in the winter.

How do you go 4+ hours?

You’re right I probably could have gotten away with one charge in the trip today if I took the Mach E. But after a full day of meetings and driving I’m very glad I took the Lincoln.

Did you worry this much when new models of ICE-powered vehicles came out with totally new powertrains?

I've been following the EV industry for over a dozen years, including owning a PHEV, and 2 different EVs (2017 Bolt EV and now a 2022 Mach-E). In that time, I've seen a steady improvement in battery charging times and raw capacity, but nothing radical from year to year. Or even every few years. Only when looking back at changes over the last 10 or so years do things seem radically improved. I wouldn't expect a huge change in things in 2 years when your lease is up. At least with a lease, you can easily jump into a new EV that might have the battery improvements you seek. I bought my Mach-E, so whatever improvements there are in 2 to 5 years, they'll have to be really fantastic for me to want to trade in the car. We're talking at least a 40% improvement in range, capacity, and charging times. I don't see that happening in a few years. In 10, sure.

Certainly stay abreast of developments in this space over the next 2 years. But don't get obsessed by it. Enjoy the car you have now and don't worry about things will be like in 2 years. There's always something newer, faster, better, cheaper just around the corner.
Did I ever worry about ICE cars you ask? No, and why would I, or anyone really….there’s a gas station on every corner where you can fill the tank in 5 minutes instead of 40 (which BTW only nets you a 70% replenishment in the Mach-E).
I’m not obsessed, just analytical and data driven, and I want to be well informed in two years; not only about EV improvements in general, but the status of my current car, which we love, and may decide to keep as long as its condition then will instill in us the confidence to stay with it based on our needs at that time.

Having a gas station on every corner doesn't mean that your ICE-powered car is immune to problems. All it means is that you have more refueling options that are quicker. You could still have a problem with a spark-plug misfiring, the transmission losing a gear or two, AC cutting out, O2 sensor dying, oil leak, etc. None of which fast refueling will fix.

First off EPA estimates for many cars can be misleading and more so with EVs if driven at highway speeds since EVs benefit from regenerative braking in city driving.
We owned a 2022 Extended range AWD and consistently got 274 miles during highway driving for over 40,000 miles of ownership. As stated by others the estimations are done differently between Ford and Tesla.
If driven at lower speeds and pleasant weather you could get 300 miles of range pretty easily but you will see changes in the GOM since it’s considering you driving history and constantly changing.
My Mach E GTP showed 335 miles of range when charged to 100%. I know it’s an estimate but I’m not complaining.

I have a new 2024 MME awd extended range which I have only driven 1500 miles. I normally overnight charge to 80%. Last night I set the charge limit to 100% and it only indicated of 274 miles. Shouldn’t I be getting something north of 300 miles. This is our first MME, we traded our 2022 Tesla Y longe range before it completely lost it’s value.
So... just charged to 100% by accident and got 313 mi on the GOM. By accident becuase I typically go to 90% daily but I reset Fordpass Connect due to issues adding a new phone which loses my charger settings evidently - and perhaps resets mileage GOM data? Last 2 times over 5mo of charging to 100% this landed me at 290

Don’t overthink it. Different numbers get displayed because……who cares?
