One pedal braking

I stay on “whisper” with a hope that it’s easier on the tires and mileage. The first month I showed off to my friends how it could accelerate, but I’m over that now. Maybe I will give the one pedal a try again in low traffic situations.

All the mode combinations are the same efficiency as long as you control the speed and steering in the same, efficient manner.

I use Whisper 1PD because I enjoy the steering and pedal feel of it the most.

I also preferred the instrument cluster graphics of Whisper or Unbridle over those of Engage, but of course we've pretty much lost those effects for now.

Once I got used to one pedal driving I never went back to two pedal. Driving in traffic or on twisty mountain roads one pedal driving is unbeatable once you get the feel of the road with it! Remember the bump-carts at the amusement park? One pedal driving was fun, wasn't it? The same w/the Mach-E except without the bumping.

I didn’t know what it was or even that I had it when I bought the car (my first EV). I think I learned about it here on the forum. I tried it and thought, “this is kind of weird.” I gave it a little more time though, and quickly got used to it - maybe a couple of days. I never went back and use it exclusively. I love it. I kind of hate two-pedal now ( my wife still drives that way).

Do most of the knowledgeable members use this? Does it have safety datasuggesting it is as safe as regular braking? It is a little scary to me as sometimes it is hard not to brake more quickly than I meant to. Is it worth it?

When I taught my wife (then girlfriend) to drive a stick shift, I found a factory parking lot that was deserted on a Sunday afternoon. That’s a great place to get comfy with it.

None of the drivers of my Mach E like it / use it. The accelerator is for go and the brake is for stop, as every vehicle I have ever driven since a child has been.

One-pedal braking is an outstanding feature when driving on hilly, winding roads. Even on the steepest downhill grades, the 1-PD keeps the MachE at the perfect speed, completely outperforming low gears of a gas engine car. I love it!!!

I have been using 1PD since 2017. I will never purchase another car without 1PD as it is much easier to drive with-once I got used to it (about 100 miles of driving). If the car is slowing down enough, than all is well. If it is slowing down too much I have learned to modulate the accelerator pedal, just as I do on any road as traffic slows slightly.

If the car is not slowing down enough, my brain will just tells my right foot to apply pressure on the brake pedal. I don't think about it...it is just driving.

Compared to the ADAS of my old car, I really like how seamlessly it goes from 1 pedal, cruise control, Blue Cruise and back.

I drive equally poorly with both. All kidding aside, I love 1PD driving. I, and my wife also, got used to it very quickly. The only problem I have is going from 1 PD to ICE. it can be a real shock when you’re in an ICE vehicle, you let off the gas, but the car does not decelerate.

I love it. Not holding my foot on the brake when stop/go traffic. Also, I like to see if I can make the car come to a stop where I want it by letting off at *just* the right time. I'm pretty good at it now after 1.5 years. Most the time I stop right where intended and don't even think about it.
Swapping to my ICE vehicle makes no difference, easy to change between the two.

I’m the total opposite when it comes to driving other cars. I’m like, why is this damn thing not stopping. ?
Good thing in my wife’s i4 it’s a flick of the shifter to the left that activates it. But only in forward, and not reverse. ?

Love one pedal and have used it nearly 100% of the time since Sep 2021. I have turned it off a few times on very icy roads. No trouble going back to the ICE cars.

I am definitely not a knowledgeable member here, but here is my take.

3 years ago I started with regular 2 pedal mode and "whisper", within a couple weeks I gravitated to "unbridled" and 1 pedal. No noticeable difference in efficiency (but I didn't run any statistical tests on it).

Many many years ago, my first vehicle used 3 pedal, and in my opinion, the change from 3 pedal to 2 pedal was more drastic for me compared to going from 2 down to 1.
