I'm wondering if this is only at specific dealerships that Ford assumes or has been a problem in the past.

I didn't send in a DL yet and just ordered online. I've spoken, emailed, texted my salesperson at the dealership multiple times.

I was told DL was required as dealers were ordering with employees, wives of employees for reservations. They asked me first time I was there.

Ordering online may not require verification if you use an existing/longstanding Ford account with an address associated.

After I made the reservation online with the $500 deposit, the dealer had me come in and sign the order and pay another deposit. Two things of note, Ford refunded my initial deposit, and the paperwork I signed at the dealer had the MSRP pricing although this was an x-plan purchase.

To also add to confusion, my dealer was sold mid-order causing my order to go blank on the Ford website for a week at the same time I was getting the deposit refund. I thought my order was canceled.

In the end, my order proceeded correctly and my final price of x-plan was honored by the dealer, although I was nervous.

This whole ordering process with Ford is just aweful. So much variation to just order a car for msrp.

No request for a dl. I ordered a 2022 on 10.1 through the Ford website. It was eventually changed to a 2021 order that a customer decided they didn't want. I did have a Ford account from when I purchased my 2011 Explorer when we were living in Wisconsin.

Ordered at the beginning of this month using the online process. Had been working with the dealer and they told me to go through the online process and to email them when it's complete. Emailed them after placing the online order/deposit. They sent me a purchase agreement to sign at msrp along with all the details of the order for verification. Also asked for a copy of my DL because they said Ford now asks for it because too many dealers were placing "phantom" orders. All in all super easy process by my chosen dealer. Very happy with them.

Follow-up to my original post / I visited the dealer:

I had originally placed the order online and before the dealer accepted it (back in December) I did have to go in and sign an order. I also have "no ADM" or dealer-added items - in writing...and I also have their additional documentation / processing fees in writing. After the confusion about my cancelled order, I did send them a scanned image of my driver's license and the Sales manager reached out to me via email and also assured me the order is still intact.....BUT he said more confusion was caused by the fact that for whatever reason.....they had TWO orders in for me - the one from my online that got prepped plus the one I came in and signed for (now THIS sounds shady). They cancelled the online one that I had placed.

TODAY I stopped by the dealership unannounced to get all the documentation and talk to them in person. The salesperson I worked with said the ford ordering stuff is a mess, confusing, and gets changed by Ford on the fly and that THEY do make mistakes. He reiterated that I still have an original order in place (and was just verified with my driver's license). I asked to see all the paperwork - he then pulled actual paper copies from a file (that were printouts / screenshots). I saw the original order from back in December with the original date and another handwritten date from yesterday along with handwritten "COVP". Then he shared another screenshot that showed the order enrollment / customer verification update with the original order date from December, with my name and a tracking number....saying it will be reviewed / confirmed within 72 hours.

So it looks like COVP is where FORD corporate verifies my driver's license and OKs the order. And I still see the original date - I just hope it still means I have these "two months" of order seniority remaining on the books.....

Time will tell.....
