Well, stranded last night by PAAK. So, I walk up to the car, does not recognize me, fine, happens, open the phone, open the app, Ford Pass Says BT connected, I unlock the car, try to Start "Key not Detected". Okay, I will kill the Ford Pass app, restart the phone, nothing works. All BT connections are working, Apple Car play is working, Ford Pass can open/close/start/stop everything, but no dice on getting the Key Detected. I did just take the car in for Service on Monday and they flashed what they needed to get the PU0105 installed so that Blue Cruise worked, however, since then, PAAK has worked. Worked on Thursday morning too, on my drive to work, but failed that evening on the drive home. So, I am now ready to use my Backup Start Passcode, unfortunately, I cannot get it to display. Should be an option in Settings, but I could not find it (I could access quite a few of the setting screens, even the manual(!), but could not get the start passcode to display. One thing I did NOT do, and probably should have, is to go into Bluetooth settings on the phone, and find the BT connection for the Ford Key, and tap Connect to see if it would connect manually like you do a speaker sometimes. And maybe disconnect the others for Apply CarPlay and Ford Pass. (my assumption is there are 3 BT connections, one for Ford Pass, one for CarPlay and one for the PAAK, but seems ODD that Ford Pass and PAAK would use a different connection, so might be wrong and there are only 2).

This is why a lot of people recommend hiding a fob somewhere in the car.
Sort of defeats the purpose, not really using the phone as a key at that point. Plus, if someone breaks in, free car! I guess if you hide the key far enough away in the back, it might not allow the car to start?

Just remove the battery and hide it well. The car will still use PaaK, but you’ll have a safety net just in case.

this is odd tho, the back up start code should work when paak is down, that's it's whole reason for existing. It sounds like somewhere along the way paak in your phone got deleted which would then automatically remove the back up start code.

I checked the PAAK in the Ford Pass app and it is still there. Maybe, the Backup start code was wiped when they did the Software Update on Monday, and so it wouldn't prompt if it's not there?

Same thing caused me to never rely on PAAK again. No key detected but not option to enter the backup start passcode. The prompt just never showed up on the sync screen. So I still gamble on drives close to home. But if I’m traveling more than 30 miles, I take a fob.

I hide my fob using a faraday bag, so I'm using the convenience of PAAK 99% of the time (with its problems).

On the rare (twice per year?) times I end up using valet parking, it's always easier to have a fob than try to fool with giving them a code. Not sure I've *had* to use the fob other than that, luckily.

it's certainly odd. So I guess you can check in fordpass if it prompts you to set up a back up start code?

In FordPass app, I can only delete the existing key, or add a new one, but I see no way to set the Backup Start code.

SO in your car when you got the no key detected, when you pressed the brake pedal and hit the start button the sync screen didn't prompt you to enter the code? And did you press the brake and start button a second time? If that didn't work than it sounds like you may need to re-do the paak setup process.

Correct, never got the passcode prompt. Pressed it over and over, pressed it long, pressed it short, etc. Was able to "start" the car using the Remote Ford Pass app, was able to get CarPlay working, was able to listen to the radio, etc, tried exiting the vehicle, letting it shutdown, then approaching again. Tried killing app, restarting phone, you name it. Never synched, and never got the passcode prompt no matter how many times I pressed the button. "Sounds like I may need to re-do the PAAK", maybe, maybe not. We will see. Would not be surprised if I show up and it works (although, I will bring the fob with me, I will try it without the fob first, just to see, and I will try using the BT settings on the phone and seeing if I can find the Key and Connect this time). once I get it started with the fob/or phone/, then I will see if a backup start code is set, I believe there is a screen that tells you. My guess is, the software updated wiped it, but did not wipe the PAAK.

I also tried rebooting Sync using the two buttons on the steering wheel for 10 seconds trick, however, when the car is stopped, that now takes you to a debugging/diagnostics screen, which again, did not display the Backup Start Passcode prompt.

So, went to pickup the car. Left the fob in my friend's car, walked over, car woke up, and I was able to start the car with my phone, and fob 1 parking space over inside another car, so I think it was my phone that started the car. Got home, parked, took fob inside, "No key detected". When back 30 minutes later, Car started no issues with JuST the phone, fob inside. Grabbed the fob, and phone (having just started it with the phone). Went into settings, Backup Start Passcode option, where you enter your code, it acts like it's not setup (so probably wiped by taking it to the dealer for the software/BC update?). Okay, go through the setup: You need to have both a Key FOB and a Phone as a Key, you are missing one. Please get it. turn car off, put fob inside, go back to car, "No key detected". IN all cases, the BT 53149 MachE says "Connected", so it's connected, just doesn't like my PAAK "sometimes". Eventually, when I get time, I will delete the key, and start over, going to check some more things.
