Peeled paint with the power washer

It was a Ryobi 2800 psi with the white tip. But I was probably within 6" of the car trying to get a bug off and wasn't thinking.

I was thinking of just ordering that piece. It wasn't too expensive and I saw it comes painted. But the Ford Body Shop estimating the removal of so much stuff made it sound very difficult to change.

Subterfuge. They may simply want to try and recoup all those oil and brake pad changes you've been skipping.

Uh, it is a small stripe at the bottom of the car. Can't you just leave it? Why shell out $$ for it? I genuinely do not understand. A rock chip from the road likely will do more damage.

Never, ever use a pressure washer on your car. It can rip trim off, damage paint, force water under seals into places it should not be.

1/2 hour labor from a dealership service center or the body shop? I was a bit surprised the service center had me talk to the body shop.

I did a similar thing with a pressure washer. A small chip of paint on the front bumper under the headlight. I ordered some touchup paint from eBay, with primer. But I have been too afraid of making it look worse so haven't done anything yet, and the color of the bumper material isn't that noticeable on my Infinite Blue car. It would be on many other colors.

This. Up close and personal is not a good choice when pressure washing a car. There are proper methods for bug removal. That said, the damage is done and the OPs dealer is not correct in how to remedy it. It's an easy enough fix.
