Looks nice and they turned the screen around to landscape as it should be, no more portraits screen for me. Not sure it will be much of a competitor to the mach-e on this side of the pond as with it being built in china it won't get the tax credit so that may put people off, seeing as the 3 will be built in the USA it maybe a hard sell so its really going to depend on the final price.

Still it is another EV to add a higher powered sporty variant that if the polestar 2 is to go by also won't get hobbled by 5 second limitations take note Ford tike to pull your finger out. Would need to see more interior shots as from what I can see the letter box slit that appears to be the rear window and need for a camera is a deal breaker to me and having owned a Sierra & Escort Cosworth in the past I will tolerate a fair amount of compromised rear visibility but it is supposed to be a coupe style SUV not van.

i saw the advertisements too and agree it looks much better than the 2 or the 3... that said it also looks really similar to the tesla M3 because they specifically go for the minimalist styling

i'm super confused about the rear window (or really, lackthereof) though

What I get from the press release blurb is that there is no rear window at all which is replaced by a high mounted HD rear camera. If it offers a wider view with no blind spots due to the "C" pillars and rear seats etc it just might be a better solution. The normal rear view mirror is replaced by a screen which can be switched to offer a view of the rear seat occupants. We won't know until we see it in reality whether this is a good idea (or not).

oh yeah i get that, i just think it looks very bizzare, makes it more hatch-back-y than any other EV, maybe reminds me of the aztec in a bad way

Volvo has plans to manufacture these in the US in the coming months for the US market.

It becomes pretty complicated to live by that logic. Are you sure that none of your MME's parts are manufactured in China? Where is the line drawn? Chinese brand is bad, but American brand with Chinese parts is good? Does assembly location matter? What about Chinese brand that's assembled in the US, or vice versa?
Obviously there are some things which are only made in China. If you need a waffle maker or any other cheap electrical appliance, 9/10 it's going to be made in china.

Where there are viable alternatives (like cars), I think we should always seek out products which are made in counties which respect human / labor rights, the environment, intellectual property, etc.

Speaking to your chinese parts vs chinese assembly question. The question is moot because everything made in China is going to be almost entirely chinese-parts content. The Polestar 2 is something like 96-99% Chinese parts content, for example.

Beyond that, chinese companies are still controlled by the gov't. Huawei electronics have been proclaimed a national security risk by the US government. Geely is installing Huawei electronics in their vehicles. Geely is also the parent company of..........Polestar.

Sure, the question is moot in the context of Chinese car, manufactured in China, which obviously has primarily Chinese parts.

But the question is interesting if you identify as someone who would never buy Chinese products and you're considering an American branded car which sources parts from China. With location of brand, location of manufacturing, and location of parts suppliers, the whole situation is pretty complicated. That's all I meant to describe.

At the end of the day, if someone wants to buy a Ford then they'll convince themself that they're not supporting Chinese companies, when they are (to some degree). If they want to buy a Polestar 4 then they'll convince themself that it's okay because it's manufactured in South Carolina (likely), when the parent company and many of the parts are from China.

That's true, but a logical fallacy you often see drawn from that point (speaking in general, not attributing to you) is that "well because you own a phone/toaster/whatever made in China, you're a hypocrite for having a problem with a car made in China."

There's a difference between a vehicle made in NA by a US company with 2% chinese parts content and a vehicle made in china by a chinese company with 99% chinese parts.

It isn't just about supporting the number one threat to the US, the CCP is using commercially sold technology to spy on us. The entire car can be a spy device rather than just a few components that slip by Ford QA.

I won't buy a Volvo or any other CCP controlled car. It is too bad because it looks pretty cool.

Why would any American buy a Chinese made EV?
This is a pretty loaded question. All of your electronics comes from China....they build your TVs, your phones, your computers, parts for pretty much every electronic device on the market...and I would suspect including many components in your car...certainly your battery.

So...if they are the best at building these things...and you're already buying stuff from them anyways....what's the hangup?
