The problem is PAAK is not an advancement, and never will be. But people believe that if it uses a phone/app then it MUST be better than the previous piece of technology. I guess I'm just baffled why people think it's better.

You joke that your Dad uses checks. Why? Because they are slower and less secure than credit/debit cards, and you think that he should now use the better option.

So I guess what I'm saying to you is... you should stop writing checks.
I was at a brewpub last week that required you to order from your phone IN THE RESTARAUNT... this is an example of what you are saying about fascination with apps. (and yeah, I'll not be back)

However, in the case of physical fob or key for my car... those days are numbered. PAAK is simply better.

OK, I'll try to keep an open mind. What, exactlly, makes PAAK better than a FOB? The only thing I seem to hear that is better is that you don't have to carry a FOB around. Is there any other benefit?

That it works over any distance, keys you have to be in sight, PaaK I remotely unlocked the car for my wife 2 miles away. Once she was also out at a friends and it started to freezing rain, so I remotely started her car and kept it warm for the 30min before she left the party.

But mostly as to not carry a fob, and when my Tesla friends have to take out their phone to unlock their car, and I don't.

Let me add, that using FordPass also has benefits, checking trips and car status, so if I am using the phone and the app anyway why not add more features to it, like PaaK, vs having 1 item to check charge, trips, planning, and 1 "device" to unlock and drive my car.

PAAK can do everything the fob can do, from anywhere (with zero additional things to carry or lose) plus
  • my phone tells me where my car is from anywhere on the planet
  • can tell me if someone opens the door
  • can start or stop charging from anywhere
  • can tell me the state of charge from anywhere

Steve, you're conflating PAAK & the FordPass app. I've never enabled PAAK; it's the FordPass app that allows me to do those things. It may be difficult to distinguish one from the other once PAAK has been enabled.

I am well aware of the difference... but having read thousands of these posts a lot of the Never PAAK people don't use the app either.

My first statement is the key point. PAAK does everything the fob does from any distance and doesn't require you to carry anything additional.

You have to be within Bluetooth range to use PaaK. Less than 100 feet or so.

I can start and unlock from miles away, but yeah I think windows, trunk, frunk are within Bluetooth only.

Anyone else have major issues with FP 4.24.0 on the P7P. Constant force close and terrible PaaK reliability with the new Smart Device Link system.
Reliability is in the toilet, but I haven't had to force close it because FP crashes. My problem is that I have to restart the app almost every time PaaK happens.

Hey man I really appreciate you putting up the flag about this so quickly. Based on this post from the other day I went in and disabled auto updates for Fordpass for my phone. I'm looking forward to them sorting this out, but I will stay out of date for a while if that's what it takes to keep my PaaK working.

Yeah no problem. I've been told that a hotfix is now being rolled out mid next week. It also takes time to get packaged and approved in the play store. An update should be hitting our phones soon and I'll post here when it has and bugs/resolutions noticed.

There is an Android issue that was just found that if you clear cache on the app it messes things up. It is independent of FordPass version or android version. Fix is in the works by both Google and Ford

I would assume clearing cache might cause your Paak key to be reset
