So I've had my GT for about a week now and absolutely love it. The owners manual accessed thru the information screen is outstanding and really helps a non-tech savvy type like me better understand all the car's features. That said, does anyone know what causes the puddle light to activate on the Mach-E. I've seen it several times shinning on the garage floor while working with the car. It sometimes comes on when I walk away from the vehicle and the automatic lock activates. But there is no explanation of the light in the owners manual.

It's suppose to be a courtesy approach light. The puddle lights activate when you approach the car, given the car is locked. It stays on for around 10 seconds. Now does it work every time? No. For me it has worked roughly 70% of the time.

Also, the mirrors must be set to fold when locked for it to work. The projectors don’t work when the mirrors are unfolded.

Now that you mention it, the only time I've seen it is inside my garage where I always fold in the mirrors to park. Good info. Thanks.

Car needs to be locked. Mirrors folded in. They light only in the dark on approach with either the fob or PaaK.

For me it works about 1 out of 4 times.

You also need to have the welcome lighting option turned on.
Yup. Setting mirrors to auto-fold on lock and welcome lighting on will make the ponies shine if you approach the car with your phone in your hand (not blocked by your body in your pocket) or your key fob. I'd say mine work about 80-90% of the time when I approach the car.

For some bizarre reason, the implementation of the pony lights is to ensure that they illuminate under as few conditions as possible and, when they do illuminate, they illuminate for as short a period of time as possible. The only rationale I can conceive of for this strategy is that the illumination source for the pony lights has an extremely short lifetime ???

When you say they don't work all the time, is that with PAAK or fob?

They light regardless of ambient light level. But, it needs to be fairly dark to see them. You can put your hand a couple inches under the mirror and see the light when you can’t see the lights on the ground during the day.

I’m not sure tachyon particles would actually be a source of illumination. I was thinking they were using something highly sophisticated, like candles ?
