I leased an AWD extended range Mach-E about two months ago. Ford said the Mach-E should have a range of 300 miles. This morning it charged to 210 miles at 85% which is typical. At 100% that would be about 240 miles well short of the 300 miles the car is rated at. That's been pretty typical. Charged with a Type 2 charger in a garage. We live in CA so no extreme cold; 53 degrees this morning. Is this normal? What is going on?

Well, what can I say, apart from that the motor trade have lied and have always been allowed to lie about fuel economy and realism of their figures and their management of expectations always has been poor and still is for EV users when they could have broken this trend.

The rating about which you speak, I think, is their claim that for my car for example is I “could get as much as” 379 miles - not in my life and as far as I can tell not in any climate anywhere on this earth.

Why don’t they just provide a realistic figure is a mystery and if we better it we’d be more happy than how unhappy we currently are about the actual shortfall situation.

My 379 has never been better than 330 in summer and 230 winter.

Yes, it's normal. I understand the concern, but if you have enough energy to go about your daily routine, then don't worry about it.

When it comes to a long distance trip use a planner (e.g. ABRP), adjust the efficiency numbers based on how you drive, and see where it says you'll need to stop to charge.

It’s 53 degrees and not 70. Range ratings also assume 65 mph average speeds.

And the GOM is just making numbers up based on mostly how you have been driving in the past.
The EPA rating is actually calculated with an average highway speed of 48.3 miles per hour and a city speed of 19.6 miles per hour.

@Londonio, if you want to learn how to achieve the EPA rating on your GOM, you’ll have to drive like the EPA did. Here is a great article explaining it.

Many countries outside of the US use much more lax testing systems in order to achieve their fuel economy numbers. Countries in Europe and the UK use one such system. The same vehicle you have in the US I believe is rated for 310 miles of range (not that most people even see that from those cars). There are actually two approved testing methodologies in the US, to further muddy things. Tesla uses the more permissive one to generate their numbers. Pretty much everyone else uses the more stringent one. ??

53 is still cold EV wise. Batteries prefer temps 70+ so warming the battery takes away range, and maintaining the battery temp will as well. Come summer time you’ll see the increased range. I usually get 300+ in summer and 190-210 in winter depending how cold it is out.

Another weirdness for people coming to EVs is that the range is greater in the city than on the highway. Just the opposite of gas cars. This is because of lower speed and regular regen.

So far my MME GOM is pretty darn accurate especially given the cold winter in the Northeast in 2024/2025. It had never failed to get me where I need to and get back . I use departure times with preconditioning and cabin prep which sure helps. There is a big difference on range between 20 degrees F and 40 degrees F . Can’t wait to see what is in the warmer temps. Maybe taking delivery of a EV in the winter like I did tempers your expectations. I am pretty impressed about how my MME handles the cold.

Just curious, were you getting the advertised range on your gas car?

I was getting just over 13 MPG while the car was supposed to get 17 MPG
Never happened, ever?

Even worse on the EV ?????

I found the range estimates to be very accurate. Sure lit was tough I only had the car for a week but it met my expectations and we made the trip. It was 20 degrees F on the way home. . Did I have range anxiety you bet. But we made it with a bit to spare . My ICE vehicle , a 2013 Ford Escape SE with the 2.0 liter Ecoboost engine over the 13 years I have owned it has precisely matched the EPA estimate of 22 MPG. So on average I get 264 on a tank. Mileage is better on the highway at 65 so I get maybe 340 on a tank. But my average daily mileage on either vehicle is maybe 30 miles. So the EV works perfectly even on the level 1 charger . I will wait for the warm weather to see how close to the 300 mile claimed range for the MME gets. The Escape is a fine vehicle but the comfort and fun factor of the MME is hard to beat. My Mini Cooper was great on the fun factor but so much on the comfort factor

I've found our GOM to also be very accurate, despite all the horror stories about GOM inaccuracy. I'm wondering if the algorithm changed for the '24 model? It always adjusts on the fly, based on conditions, and generally matches the SOC & m/kWh on the trip screen.
