All very interesting, we don’t have PAAK as such in the UK due to over cautious controlling insurance industry over here!

App will will lock/unlock doors which i do use.

Anyhow, the electric boot opener………works every time without fail on the buttons and the key fob, and also hands-free by waggling foot under bumper……….when you’re not carrying a load to/from car.

What the ‘Stang does have, though, is some kind of sophisticated sensor which determines when you’re carrying a load to/from car and so actually need hands-free boot (trunk as you call it over the pond) operation when it disables the hands-free so you have to put your load down and press buttons??‍♂

There are 5 "buttons" to close the power liftgate. Probably overkill but I guess they wanted to make sure we were covered. :)
  1. Square button on the bottom of the liftgate. Same button used to set the opening height limit. This button isn't accessible when the hatch is closed.
  2. Round rubber covered button under the license plate. Will open or close the liftgate when unlocked.
  3. Button on the fob. Will open or close the liftgate.
  4. Button in the FordPass app. Will open or close the liftgate.
  5. Button on the Sync screen. Will open or close the liftgate.
Are there any that I missed?
Yes, you missed the physical button near the driver’s left knee to open/close the hatch, as well as the one on the SYNC Home Screen. (So did the Mach E design team).

I’m not sure if it was recommended yet, but you can pull fuse 11, for at least 30 seconds, in the cabin fuse box behind the passenger glove compartment to reset the power lift gate module. That should fix the problem.

Good info thanks. Same fuse I saw pulled on a video to fix their modem "TCU"? They could not get into the conductivity screen. Mine has only closed 1/2 way a couple of times lately worth a try?

It is the same fuse oddly enough. Yeah, I think resetting it by pulling the fuse is worth a try. It’s easy enough that if it doesn’t fix it you didn’t waste too much time.

115 APower liftgate.
Hands-free liftgate actuation module.
Telematics control unit module.

I’ve had the “hatch opens ok but usually doesn’t close” problem since I got my car. The dealer investigated and reprogrammed it, still doesn’t work consistently. No codes. I’ll get the 3 beeps or just nothing. I’m wondering if there’s a sensor looking for obstructions (maybe misaligned) because the last couple of times it worked I stood back further a few steps. Same behavior with either trunk button or fob. It could be PaaK or fob related because standing away tends to weaken the signals.

And yeah it’s crazy not having a physical button for it when someone’s outside and you’re trying to open it for them and fumbling through Sync screens…

Hello, Jerry!
Send us a private message with your VIN and the name and location of your local Ford dealer.
I’d be happy to see what I can do to assist with this hatch concern. Thanks!
