Looks like they already removed it. When I click on the subscription it now either does nothing at all, or it brings up a dialogue box with a call button saying to call to manage your account.

Amazing how fast they can be to restrict stuff versus other things.

Argh. So I setup rpcapd on my router and sniffed the session from the car reaching out to care.siriusxm.com. It's TLS encrypted so to dive any deeper I need to setup MITM. Not sure how much time I have to go further.
I see what you mean. This thing is sneaky.

And there's no DNS requests coming across either. It's like it sends DNS down the cellular path while the rest goes over WiFi.

Nothing lasts forever, especially when it's all over social media. You know Ford has seen this, and if it's impacting their bandwidth, or their cellular bill, it will soon be squashed. Unfortunate, but that's the reality.
Assuming Ford pays based on usage, data costs next to nothing, it's a revenue stream for the cellular companies. Getting the infrastructure up and running is where the costs are. Data fees may not be structured for Ford in the same way that they are for consumers, especially for an anticipated use like this.

Which is why he didn't want to 'share' this in the first place. He could have at least watched YouTube while he charged!

Come on Ford...

Eh, I’m glad he shared it even though it will be closed, seems like a big security risk, this probably hasn’t been checked on how it would interact with other systems

Faster than I thought. I guess #SoftwareIsntHard when it comes to ruining fun.

For good measure I tried a ethernet dongle plugged into a USB port, nothing. lol. I know, long shot. Honestly I do have a LimeSDR I could setup to masquerade as a ATT enodeb and capture the cellular traffic. But that's a royal pain and will require me taking a day off just to set everything up. I think I'm likely to leave it as it is for now.

It still works for me. It took a few minutes after startup before clicking the subscription button would actually launch the browser though, likely was still starting up and not ready yet.

I can't get it to use my WiFi, because that's exactly what i was going to do. Just change the host entry on DNS to redirect to my own website at home. It shows connected to wifi, but I don't see any traffic or DNS lookups on my network from the car's WiFi IP address.
The car seems to not use your DHCP DNS settings and probably is using Ford's DNS. I don't see any activity in my DNS from the car at all. But do see the traffic going through my router with packet inspection.

This is way off topic but since I’ve got some fellow nerds in here, anyone know why my car WiFi just suddenly doesn’t find any networks anymore? I made a thread about it that got buried, it’s just really weird. Vehicle modem is working fine.

Encrypted DNS. With a trusted cert. It's almost like Ford learned their lesson's previously.

Likely a radio crash. Pretty common but indicates "something" crashed.

I'm glad he released it to the public. Who knows how many people it might had been disclosed too in discords or other forums that are not as populated. They are having enough issues without people streaming gigabytes of cat videos on their service cellular connection... Really though, people doing this can't be helping with the OTA situation.. If it was using the car's AT&T hotspot then it would be a different story.

Like others have said though, it shows its possible. Ford just needs to realize a large portion of their customers want this in their car. I personally never fast charge, but I spend a good hour a day waiting for kids at school. I also spend about 9hrs a week waiting for them during their after school practices. I would love to watch videos even if the car required the AT&T connection for it to work.
