"If so does this bring into a question of battery health " down the road"?
:unsure: worth examining for sure-I'd take long battery life over faster charging time but who wouldn't love both?

Off the top of my head both Tesla Y (400v) and Rivian R2 (450v claimed) state 28 minute charging time to 80%. I have not seen battery temperatures associated with this. I have only seen 104f on my Mach E 1x during a dcfc session in July when it was 85f.

This ensures peak performance during driving, prevents overheating, and preconditions the battery for maximum DC fast-charging speeds. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Key Battery Regulation Features
  • Automated Thermal Management: The vehicle actively heats or cools the battery while driving and charging to maximize efficiency and prevent degradation.
  • Intelligent Pre-conditioning: To achieve the iX3's maximum DC fast-charging speeds (up to 400 kW), the battery must be at an optimal temperature. The car preconditions the battery in two main ways:
    • Navigation Routing: Entering a DC fast charger as your destination automatically preconditions the battery along your route so it's primed as soon as you arrive.
    • Manual Activation: You can also manually trigger the "Prepare battery" feature via the My BMW App or the in-car Panoramic iDrive system.

Tesla targets between 40-50°C (104-122°F) when Supercharging.

This is why battery preconditioning is much more important on a Tesla than on the Mach-E which only targets 75°F.

Ford's first foray into a serious EV was likely better than BMWs. But the MME battery charging has always been a little slow, and now even long in the tooth.

I don’t see beaver teeth. I see pig nostrils. The grill is a very noticeable and very unfortunate blemish against what appears to be an otherwise pretty good option.

The bigger battery coupled with faster charging would make a significant difference on road trips. Additional range may eliminate interim charging stops altogether for trips of up to 300 miles. That would be a big deal for me.

Still not a big enough improvement to justify dropping another $60k, though. Sticking with my First Edition until a clear upgrade which is truly valuable emerges.

The same features apply to the Mach-E, especially with the heat pump added, (except for the lack of a dedicated pre-condition switch), who knows what US EVs (including the Mach-E) could have been like in the alternative reality..

Mach e only targets 75f when pre conditioning? Where is this documented? I have never seen more than 59f.

All this is marketing stuff. We actually need an independent or owner review detailing actual battery temperature and kW rates.

I believe that information actually exists here on the forum. TBH, I don’t care enough to try to find it as I rarely fast charge and when on road trips, I actually don’t mind a bit of a break.

I’m a big fan of early, massive depreciation. Because I’ll be buying my next EV off a short lease. It’s the only reason I would even consider a BMW or Caddy.
