Soon after I bought a Mach-E in May 2021, I had an electrician install a 240-volt, NEMA 14-50 outlet in our garage. In addition to charging the Mach-E using the Ford Mobile Charger that came with the car, we also use it to charge my wife's Ford Fusion Energi (a plug-in hybrid) much faster (think an hour or two versus overnight).
Unfortunately, a few months ago my wife dropped the mobile charger and the little black part that operates the locking mechanism broke. We've been using it since then and it has been working fine, but today it was locked into my wife's car and we couldn't get it out. I unplugged the charger from the outlet—I'm no dummy...okay, only a little bit of a dummy—and used a flat screwdriver to pop off the aforementioned little black part. We were then able to remove the charger.
At this point, I'm hesitant to try using it again, so does anyone know the best way to get a replacement? I was not able to find the part on Ford's parts website, which is hardly the model of a user-friendly UI, and I assume that it would be ludicrously overpriced anyway. (I haven't talked to my dealer yet.)
Are there any places that sell legitimate Ford parts at a discount from MSRP? (When I had a Honda, it was easy to get Honda parts for less from a Honda dealership that would ship them.)
If not, are there any good mobile chargers not made by Ford? Since we already have the 240-volt, NEMA 14-50 outlet, I don't need the full EVSE solution, just the mobile charger.
Thanks!
