Really? I would think that the heating elements in the windshield would run at 12V and use far less total energy than the HVAC system. But I've admittedly never owned a car with one.
If you just need to remove external fog, sure a quick boost will probably be more efficient.
Internal fog is much more effective with HVAC.
The heated windshield has killed plenty of 12v batteries back when Ford enabled it by default when preheating (diesel heaters) and had to stop doing it. It's an absolute hog.

I'm in Colorado and just had Safelite replace my windshield. The technician said there was a problem installing because the plug for the new windshield doesn't match the receptacle for the car, 4 prongs instead of 2. The new windshield is supposedly OEM and it has the blue oval, but I noticed it doesn't have the purple tint. However it does have faint wavy lines in the glass so it appears to be heated. I thought the heated windshield was a European thing? Now I have to wait for another replacement. Personally I find the wavy lines in the glass very distracting. Anyone have a similar experience with windshield replacement?
Twenty five years ago I had a Taurus with heated windshield and wondered if they were all eliminated in US cars.
What a wonderful option that is. In minutes the snow and ice melt right of the glass.

I think the Mach E First Edition had a heated windshield.

Are the embedded wires in modern heated windscreens similar to those in the rear? I can see that being obnoxious. Or are they smaller? Scraping ice off the windshield is my least favorite chore, and at -40F, heated glass would work a lot better than a fan blowing air across the inside.
