2021 Mache
I purchased a MBB 2 yrs ago from Ford and haven’t had any issues with the 2021 Mache. I now would like to sell or trade it for a newer car and don’t know how to price the car To sell. I took it to a dealership today to trade and the amount they offered was ridiculous . How do you determine a fair price for this suv to sell and are there any suggestions on places who buy used cars without taking you to the cleaners? Any suggestions are welcomed!

You're getting taken to the cleaners. Dozens of posts regarding values dropping. Carmax, Carvana, Driveway, ...

Get ready to be disappointed. EVs have terrible resale value, and the Mach-E is especially bad. My 2022 Mach-E Premium, which I bought used to save money, is worth about $8k less than what I owe on my loan. I recommend looking at certified and used Mach-Es in your area on Cars.com to price your MME accordingly.

Thank you all for the info. I did look at the KBB on it and the dealership said it was only worth $14,000 since it was a buy back by Ford then a resale. It came with a full Ford Warranty and I have put 40,000 on it with out any issues with the computer. Covid delayed the chips from China so Ford had to buy back several then they were fixed and sold for less.I was heartbroken with that offer from Kia . I guess my best bet is to list for sale to try to get back some of what I paid. With it being a Ford buy back can I still get the KBB amount or will I have to settle for less? I paid $46,000 and know I won’t get any where close to that but $14000 was unreal !

Full disclosure, I may not have pulled the trigger on an MME had I'd known at the time about the crazy depreciation.

Totally on me for not doing my homework, but disappointing nonetheless. I'm accustomed to the typical strong resale value of Subarus.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy my MME, but I was planning on only keeping it a few years at most. With the crazy low trade offers, it looks like I may be holding onto it for the life of the 72 month loan. Only silver lining is the 0% financing.

You bought an EV in 2021. 2021 and 2022 are the worse time to buy any car let alone an EV thanks to revenge spending, chip shortage and low inventory.
Prices have now normalized and so are used prices. How quick people forget what it was like before Covid.

Best to drive it until the battery falls off.

I really don’t understand this approach. If you only plan on keeping a new car for a few years, why wouldn’t you lease it? It seems like the unfortunate predicament is solely on you.

You're right, leasing might have made more sense in this situation given the rapid depreciation of EVs and my initial uncertainty about a long-term commitment.

I almost always modify my vehicles and keep them for 7-10 years, so leasing has never been appealing. Plus, I dislike mileage restrictions and dealer-mandated service contracts.

Since this was my first EV, I was unsure how it would fit into my lifestyle. I figured I'd either upgrade to a newer EV if I loved the tech or trade it for another ICE vehicle if I didn't.

While I'm happy with my Mach-E and have no regrets, the depreciation is a bit disheartening. You've definitely given me food for thought regarding leasing in the future.

Fair enough. I bought my MME outright. I leased my Lightning with the intent of buying it out. I modify both for better stereo and dashcams. I am sure that I would take a bath if I traded in either one before 7 years, I still have my previous car (it’s 12 years old and the kids drive it now). If for some reason I need to turn in the Lightning, it will cost me a bit to restore the oem audio and that would be more of a loss.

For me, a tech nerd, who grew up in NY turning in leased cars every 3 years, it’s hard to think that a gen 2 lighting or MME might be on the market in 3 years and I won’t get to have one right away ?. However, my 12 year old Volvo taught me a lesson about how nice years of no car payments can be.

I'm totally a fellow tech geek! I get the distinct feeling most of us here are.? For better or worse, I'm also often an early adopter of new, exciting tech.

With vehicles, however, I tend to give auto manufacturers at least a couple years to work most of the kinks out of a new model. I've definitely been bitten before.

As far as MME is concerned, I'm less worried about longevity and more just bummed that I might have to wait longer to get my next shiny new set of wheels.? I sometimes need to remind myself to appreciate and enjoy what I have today.

I bought a '22 F150 Lightning Lariat EV and paid MSRP.
Got the full MSRP back when I traded in for my '23 Mach E.
Made $10K on the Lightning and got $6500 PCO off my '23 Mach E for waiting 14 months and train derailed the first one.

Planning on turning in mine at the end of 36 months when the warranty expires.

After a potentially huge repair bill that was covered under warranty, I am going to jump ship....

If it is a buyback from Ford. It has a branded title and will show up on carfax. With branded title, a lot of dealers do not want it. Even if the dealer wants it, the offer will be with a substantial discount.

I use KBB, NADA Black Book and compare to what the real world is asking (Dealer Sites, Car Gurus, etc.) and go from there
