Same here. It is a magnet for rocks. I have fixed mine more times than I have on all my other vehicles combined. They crack so easily with the smallest of rock chips. 2023 MME GT, 6000 miles 6 chips that turned into cracks.

I'll chip :giggle: in too. Almost two years into my MME and I've had a couple of rock chips but definitely not out of the ordinary. I try to religiously stay far, far behind the gravel trucks that, at least here, are the major cause. Other pits and chips, never noticed any.

For personal reasons im not selling mine just yet. I dont want to complain but, @Ford Motor Company turned me into that person. I used to love my mme and loved talking about it, defending it to Tesla owners, etc. Sadly, Ford has turned this whole experience into a terrible one for me. Im planning on selling my mme in Q4 2025. Until then I will complain and be bitter about my mme.

I paid a lot of money for my mme as one of the early adopters. So having issues and lack of support from Ford really makes me mad. I spent good money with Ford and they think its okay to not communicate, put crappy parts in the mme, and in general not provide a good experience. I have the right to complain about it as long as Ford has my money.
If your getting chips and pitting in the windshield glass, That all comes down to you. Not Ford. Glass by nature is a Crystaline form of silica. Chipping and pitting comes from a foreign object impact. Strictly environmental. Scratching the glass is also from a hard material being pushed across the surface. Like a dry windshield in a dust area wiper action. There are areas of the country that have a lot of sand in the air. High vehicle traffic and speeds kick up material as well. It doesn't matter what brand you have, Your driving conditions and actions do.

Fun fact - glass is softer in the summer and harder in the winter. A summer chip is likely to become a winter crack.

Got a chip within the first month of my 2023 GTPE ownership. Lots of road construction on Hwy 95 in Georgia. Had the chip repaired, buts it's starting to crack and spead. In Ga it's not covered unless you add a expensive rider due to all the road construction in the state. Just a hazard of driving, doesn't seem like a design issue.

Tesla Model Y has the same issue as the Mach-E with the windshield the glass used is horrid. I drive my 2013 Toyota Highlander on the same route as my Mach-E no cracks or chips in the windsheild todate. However the Mach-E had so many had to have the windsheild detailed and the shop was shocked as they only knew the Model Y had this issue. I already got new chips after the detailing three months later. I plan to go with safelite shortly for a replacement others on this forum used them and the quality of glass is much better than what Ford is using.

I have to agree that the angle, height, and aerodynamics of the car increase the likelihood of windscreen impact. After all, if anyone has done any knapping, you learn real quick that 150 degrees is super important. But I also have to wonder about the coating. The early edition of the car manual had a warning about what to use on it. But that has since been removed. So with time I suspect that the coating may change. But I don't know if it's for the better or worst. The insurance companies will know.

So what, based upon real experience, is the best coating for an extra layer of protection that can be applied to the windshield? Is it a professional application or something we can apply at home?

I love my Mustang Mach E. I've now owned two of them. My first one was a 2021 GTPE. Had for 33,000 miles and three years. Windshield was not the best but not as bad as my 2024 GT. I have have the car on the road for two weeks now and 800 miles. There are so many pits in the glass it is unreal. I have had the whole car wrapped in PPF to help with chips. I do NOT ride peoples butts either. I am extremely upset with this. There is no reason this should be happening. It is worse than my 33,000 miles glass on my old one.
Yeah, I do most of my driving on city highways that are frequently swept, and I have mixed opinions on the windshield, because I'm frequently shocked that it didn't shatter from the impacts of rocks and debris, but also shocked at just how many pits I have.

Don't even get me started on how many paint chips I have too.

My windshield has a high amount of pitting as well. All relatively clean highway driving. I"m at 30,000 miles. I've never had another vehicle with this type of light pitting. This is the time of the year with the low sun it really is annoying.

40,000 miles on this one.
I think it's softer for more sound deadening. My RX450H also has a sound screen windshield and it's just as soft.
'Funny' thing is it's not pitting, it's faint scratches all over.
Not softer.
