Should I have Hands Free Tailgate Kick Lift function?

Hi - We have a premium AWD Mach E 2022. I think I read somewhere that one could kick open the tailgate (basically hands free open), but people had difficulty with it. Elsewhere, it is indicated that the car does not have that feature.

If relevant, the window sticker has a date of 08/25/2022 at the bottom.

Foot activated liftgate was discontinued. Don’t remember when. So was the park-assist. My ‘21 Premium have both but I don’t use them.

I think if you kick hard enough (and many times), it will eventually open. Now granted, your tailgate will look pretty beat up but it should open in time.

Now closing it and keeping it closed will be a whole other task though.

Sad thing is I don’t think 2023’s have it, not even the GT. Ford must have stopped ordering the part completely.

Our Select built Aug 20th has the tailgate module so it seems likely that all the 2022 have it. They quit enabling the feature in March but we haven't heard the reason from Ford. We used a $35 OBD2 adapter from Amazon and followed the procedure in the link mentioned above to get our kick activation working. We were used to having the feature on our C-Max and use it every day on the MME.

Thank you. I am not sure I understand much there. I will look for a layman version of the basics (how to connect forscan, how to update car etc), but if someone has a step by step instructions, please do share. Thank you for your kind help.

We used the Vgate vLinker FS OBD2 USB Adapter for FORScan sold on Amazon. It is showing as not available at this time but there are a number of similar adapters. I would look for one that says it works with Forscan. Avoid the very low priced devices. I got one of them to use with my C-Max and it failed after a few weeks.

Interesting, my Premium was built in the last week of July and I followed the procedure but wasn’t able to get it working. I have experience with FordPass and did some other changes including disabling the dreaded double honk. The vehicle threw an error about the module being missing when I tried to enable.

Did you run the LIN under the wrench Icon and then clear all the faults under the DTC Icon?
