Hi all,

Searched the forum and couldn't find this particular issue. Maybe I missed it.

Anyway, 2022 MME Premium ER, built after May 24.
Exclusive 1 PD, Engaged mode

When I stop, (foot on brake), and I put the car in park, then release the brake...the car seems to roll a good amount. Even on flat surfaces.
I've taken to putting into neutral, then putting on parking brake and then switching to park.

Is that the right thing to do? What is the cause? Others have this issue?

The car is 5000 pounds and has a tiny rollback before the calipers grasp. It's normal. A lot of people do as you and put parking brake on first.

It definitely rocks back into the parking brake, I've noticed. Not as bad as our Audi does, which rolls until it takes up the slop in the transmission to hit the parking gear.

You shouldn't have to do the gear switching - try applying the parking brake before you let off the foot brake, see if that does it.

That's normal.

1. Place car in park
2. Apply parking brake
3. Take foot off brake

I think the car may roll a bit before the drive gear comes to rest on the parking pawl. I release the brake pedal very slowly to counteract this.

depends what you mean by "good amount". The MME uses a parking pawl. The wheels turn a little to get the pawl to engage... I understand that changing this to a system that just uses the parking brake is on the development radar for the gen 2 cars.

anyway, the takeaway is, either set the parking brake before you take your foot off the brake as suggested above... or don't worry about it.... it will roll a little till the pawl engages.

Yep. It's a useful trick sometimes, though. The last bit of getting into my garage space is a slow creep (it's gotta be within a couple of inches at final rest or multiple issues occur), but my wife often opens the door before I get to my final spot. The roll back is useful for letting the door hit her in the arse as she exits. Doesn't seem to modify the behavior, but it's pretty funny. Sometimes.

Our just did the same thing tonight. Appeared to move 4 inches or so. So this is considered normal?

Others seem to think so, but I thought it was a lot. My husband thought it moved enough that it could knock an old person over if they got out before I left off the brake, thus I use the parking brake.

I paid attention parking tonight- no roll back when stopping with 1PD. Lends credence to the rocking back on the brakes. Also, points in favor of all 1PD driving.
