I was driving to the airport last Friday with Blue Cruise engaged (my wife and her three sisters went on a girls' trip weekend to San Diego - so my brother-in-law invited me to Seattle to see the Huskies vs Utes football game. Go Huskies! Sorry Utes fans) and noted that if felt like my speed was increasing while Blue Cruise was on - I do not remember what speed I had the cruise control portion set at - but there was a definite jump in speed. I then reset everything and after awhile the speed decreased to 65 from 70. There was no traffic in front of me. On the way back from the airport on Sunday night the same thing happened - I had BC set at 71 MPH and after awhile it randomly dropped to 65. Is this because I was going above the speed limit? Very scary that this could happen. Am I missing something?

You likely have Speed Sign Recognition in Adaptive Cruise Control turned on. While in theory that's a useful feature, in reality is too often leads to unexpected results. Most end up turning to off...

Yeah if that is the cause, just turn it off. It drove me crazy when I bought the car until I figured it out.

The Speed Sign Recognition uses both downloaded map data as well as reads signs. Both data sources are problematic. For instance I once noticed that the speed sign on the IPC showed 85 while I was on a surface street with a speed limit of 35. Another time (shortly after I got the car) I had the car suddenly decelerate while on the freeway when it erroneously interpreted a 45 mph off-ramp recommended speed sign as if it was the freeway speed. I found and turned off the feature as soon as I got home!

Have to admit this is pretty scary - 85 MPH?!? Thanks for the information.

On my first ever road trip home the sign recognition was on from the dealership setup.

I turned it off immediately after I got home and learned what was causing the slow down.

I found it quite annoying.

Mine once accelerated quickly, I think it read a highway sign next to my surface street. Also dropped from 35 to 15 a couple of times before I noticed the 35 mph sign was damaged and the 3 looked like a 1. I turned it off.

On a residential street that I occasionally travel, taggers have changed a sign from 35 to 85. Yup, the car tells me that the speed limit on that narrow residential street is 85 until the next (non-tagged) sign shows up. A little bit of sanity checking in the algorithm wouldn't hurt. (Ie, allow the speed to go below the database speed, but not above (and definitely not 50mph above!) Anyway, even before seeing this, I had turned off sign recognition in the adaptive speed control.

It's just a horrible feature to have on by default.
Plus it generates at least 1 new thread on this a month.

As some have mentioned, the camera can misread signs. In addition to reading incorrectly-modified speed signs or speed signs specifically meant for an exit, it can also mistake route signs as speed signs - a real issue when you're on HWY 101. If you want to find out where the speed limiter is, try HWY 405! ?

So hard believe something so advanced doesn't work perfectly, all the time, in every scenario, under all conditions. Crazy. Who would have thought Advanced Driver Assistance Systems would still require drivers to pay attention. And that this question would just keep coming up over and over. Ford should definitely fix...everything. All at once.
